DryGate Brewery NEW Bar Food and Cocktail Menu (Glasgow) : Review

Invited

V: 6th March 2020

The guys over at DryGate Brewery, invited me over to the launch night of their new bar Food and Cocktail menu.

Looking Around

I have been to Drygate many times, with friends or with the craft beer tasting tours so I know it very well.

The event tonight was upstairs, the new menu for upstairs only.

The Food

I didnt know what was in store for me tonight, but I was mega looking forward to it.

I was told that a sampler would be brought round to me, and I could select 2 cocktails to try which was great.

Sampler

  • Pizza By The Slice
  • Cauliflower Wings (VG)
  • Tacos : Crisp Fried Haddock
  • House Made Nachos (V)

All of these samples were very nice, and full of flavour, my favourite from this selection was the Cauliflower Wings and I could have easily had more.

The fish taco was nice, but the taco broke up for me very easily so I couldn’t grab and eat, I had to use my knife and fork.

And there was more..

This was Drygates Vegan Curry was served in a tiffin tray with bread, rice and dips.

Presentation wise I really liked this, and as you can see its very instagramable…..now for the taste..

This was a VERY good curry, and extremely moreish.

If you like currys you need to try this, and I promise you you wont regret it.

Cocktails :

Orinoco Russian : Vodka, Coffee Liqueur, Orinoco Syrup, Milk and Cream Chocolate

and

Pineapple Rum Old Fashioned : Plantation Pineapple Rum, Sugar and Orange Bitters

Both these cocktails were very good, but my fav and one I would definitely have again is the Orinoco Russian mmmmm so good 🙂

Firstly a big thanks to DryGate for my invite, I really had a great time and good food and cocktails.

I really loved the Cauliflower Wings and the Drygate Vegan curry, these were my top two dishes from tonight.

Overall I can recommend you visit and try the new menu and the cocktails, as I really enjoyed what I had. Thanks again guys 🙂

Wagamama (Glasgow Fort, Glasgow) Trying the Vegan Menu : Review

Invited: 28th January 2020

The guys over at Wagamama sent me an invite to visit the Glasgow Fort branch, to come in and try their Vegan menu and I accepted and set a date.

Yes you read that correct, I said yes to trying some Vegan food….yup 2020 has an interesting start to the year for me.

I haven’t gone out and had any Vegan dishes before, I didn’t know what to expect as well you know me as you have seen my posts…but hey I am always up for trying new things.

Looking Around

I have never driven to the Glasgow Fort before, but to be honest it was very easy.

I have been to Wagamama many years ago, and enjoyed that visit but the one part I didn’t like too much (personal preference) was your sitting next to strangers.

When entering this Wagamama I noticed that here they had a benches area, and had a normal table area which was great so I opted to sit at the table section.

The Food

So tonight its from the Vegan menu, and I really had no idea if I was going to like it or not.

Time to see what it’s like…

Side

Yasai Gyoza £5.95 (Tonight Free)

five steamed dumplings filled with vegetables. Served grilled with dipping sauce

I wanted to have a wee side, to see what another dish was going to be like so I played safe as I have had dumplings at other restaurants.

I tried these on their own, and then with the sauce.

On their own they were nice, but they needed a little more flavour for me. With the sauce really helped for me, and I enjoyed every bite.

Main Course :

Vegan ‘Suika’ Tuna (Tonight FREE)

Wow this was a big portion, and for me looked very interesting.

I was told that the “tuna” is actually dehydrated watermelon which is sliced and seared, which gives it the look and texture of tuna….now theres a first for me to hear you could do that but very cool.

I am not a watermelon person, so I was very hesitant to eat this but it was recommended to me by Wagamama to try so I didn’t want to let them down.

Time to try and see how this was…

So I tried everything on its own, and then combined for the perfect bite.

I hope you are sitting down reading this, as I am going to shock you. This actually was very very tasty and I enjoyed every bite. The watermelon didn’t taste like watermelon for me, so again this was great for me and it tasted really nice.

Desert :

chocolate + orange blossom ice cream (Tonight FREE)

So some Vegan Ice Cream, now this is also another first for me.

On arrival it looked really good, but now it was time to taste…

So this had the texture of normal ice cream, and the taste of a light chocolate and orange flavour. Ok so not as bad as expected, and the orange was very nice.

The chocolate for me (personal preference as I have a sweet tooth) could have been a little stronger in flavour, but overall very impressed and was nice and light.

Hard Rock Cafe Thanksgiving Dinner (Glasgow) : Review

Hard Rock Cafe (Glasgow)
179 Buchanan Street
Glasgow G1 2JZ

0141 353 8790
www.hardrock.com/cafes/glasgow

Invited : 26th November 2019

Rock ’n’ roll-themed chain with a high-energy vibe serving burgers & American classics.

I got a wee ping in my inbox asking me if I would like to visit Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow, to try their Thanksgiving menu and I accepted and put it in my calendar.

This sounded very interesting, as I have not had a Thanksgiving meal for a few years now so it would be good to have one again.

Looking Around

I have had Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow, on my list to pop in and try so I was very excited to visit tonight. I have only ever been in the London Hard Rock Cafe, so I was ready to take a look around and enjoy the food.

On entering you go through the Hard Rock Shop and through the back to get to the restaurant, I spotted a few cool things in the shop but I was a good boy and didn’t get anything since its so close to Christmas.

Inside was very cool with lots of memorabilia on the walls, classic tunes playing and had a really funky but nice and relaxing atmosphere.

I was seated at the back, for me this was good as I got a good view of the whole place.

The Food

I was invited here to have Thanksgiving dinner, which if your not familiar with Thanksgiving dinner its basically like your traditional Christmas dinner.

I was given the menu to have a look at, and then asked if they can start preparing it….of course I said yeah! as I was a hungry boy.

Thanksgiving Dinner

Slow roasted turkey breast, roasted fresh vegetables, home-style classic stuffing, creamy sweet potato mash, cranberry sauce finished with a traditional turkey gravy £15.95 (Tonight Free)

This was a good sized portion, and it smelled amazing!!! after many photos and Instagram stories, I finally started.

I tried everything on its own first, to see how it tasted and how well it was cooked.

Let me start with the Brussels sprouts, I normally avoid these guys but I tried them tonight and I was VERY shocked. These had a really nice flavour to them, and nice and soft and guess what? I finished them all…nice ones guys!!!

Everything on this plate was really nice, full of flavour and worked well on its own and together,

Pumpkin Pie £6.50 (Tonight Free)

As I said at the start of this review, I have had Thanksgiving dinner in the past but not for many years. I have had Pumpkin Pie before, so it would be nice to compare them as the one I had in the past was homemade.

This tasted just like I remembered, and I enjoyed it very much.

I have a very sweet tooth so its not a sweet I would order a lot if I saw it on a menu, but it was Thanksgiving and it was the perfect sweet for the night.
