Shanghai Teahouse (Bothwell) 2023 : Review

Visit & Vibes

With a long list of restaurants and takeaways waiting to be explored and revisited, finding the time to indulge in these gastronomic adventures can be quite a challenge, especially when life’s unexpected twists and turns come into play. However, today I finally ticked off a long-standing entry on my foodie bucket list: the Shanghai Tea House in Bothwell.

For far too long, this intriguing eatery had beckoned to me with promises of delightful flavors and culinary treasures from the heart of China. The anticipation had been building, and today was the day I decided to embark on this flavorful journey.

As I stepped inside, I was greeted by an exceptional team of staff, setting a positive tone for my visit. Finding my way to a table in a bustling restaurant, the vibrant atmosphere instantly infused me with excitement.

Taking in the surroundings, the decor exuded warmth and coziness, creating a welcoming ambiance. But what truly heightened my anticipation was the captivating aroma that enveloped the entire restaurant. The tantalizing scent of the culinary delights in the air left my taste buds eager for what was to come.

The Food

SESAME KING PRAWN TOAST £6.80

For my appetizer, I couldn’t resist the allure of their Sesame King Prawn Toast—a dish I hold close to my heart, as each place tends to put its unique spin on it.

Upon its arrival, I was immediately impressed by the artful presentation, which set high expectations. The wafting aroma signaled that this experience was off to a promising start.

Taking that initial bite, the flavors were nothing short of delightful. Every element on the plate had its distinct place in the symphony of tastes, and the freshness of the dish was evident in its delightful warmth. But it was when the prawn toast met the accompanying sauce that things truly elevated. The sauce infused each bite with a tantalizing “wow” factor, rendering it utterly delectable and irresistibly moreish.

In summary, my choice of the Sesame King Prawn Toast was a decision well made. If you share my fondness for this dish and happen to visit this establishment, I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try. It’s a culinary gem that shines brightly on the menu.

CRISPY SHREDDED SWEET ‘N’ CHILLI CHICKEN £15.50

As I perused the menu for my main course, my eyes locked onto a dish that holds a special place in my heart—the crispy shredded sweet and chili chicken. Only one other restaurant has managed to impress me with this dish, and I was eager to see how this establishment would fare.

When the dish arrived, it was artfully presented in a noodle bowl, a presentation style reminiscent of a favorite haunt of mine. The attention to detail in its appearance, the captivating aroma that wafted from it, and my anticipation combined to create a mouthwatering moment.

My first bite revealed a chicken that, while not as crispy as I had hoped, was impeccably cooked, with a flavor profile that truly delighted my taste buds. The dish’s allure was undeniable, and it disappeared from my plate with surprising speed.

In conclusion, the crispy shredded sweet and chili chicken here was a definite hit. If you share my affinity for this dish and find yourself at this restaurant, I highly recommend giving it a try. I’m eager to hear your thoughts on this delectable creation.

Ho Wong (Glasgow) 2022 : Review

Todays Visit

Today was my dads 70th Birthday and we booked the Ho Wong for his dinner, we used to go to the original location of Ho Wong years ago and enjoyed many good meals.

Inside

Entering the inside is stunning! and I have to say much much nicer than the original location interior.

The smell of food hits you which gets you ready to start thinking “what should I order?”

I had no idea what to order, but I decided to go with my gut.

Crispy Duck Roll £9.90

I don’t tend to pick duck so I thought let’s give this a try and see what it’s like.

On arrival, this looked and really smelled very very good! I couldn’t wait to dig in and try it.

I took a bit and WOW the explosion of amazing flavours hit me, the duck the sauce and the texture were perfect!

Sweet & Sour: Chicken £19.80 with egg fried rice £4.50

I have not had sweet and sour chicken for a while so I thought let’s see how Ho Wong does it.

On arrival this looked very nice, but did it taste good?

The chicken was nice and tender, the coating was thin but had a nice slight crispness to it and the flavour was nice and not a vinegar hint to it which you can find in other places or takeaways so I knew this was cooked right.

It was nice, but not amazing…if the flavour was just a little strong I think that would have helped but it was a nice dish.

Visit Overall

Overall it was nice to see the Ho Wong back, and it was also nice to see how busy it was.

I had a very nice time tonight and so did my dad, on my return, I will have a different main but I will probably get the same starter as it was very good.

Yes, it’s a little costly, but the atmosphere, service and food are very good.

A few weeks back the guys here invited me to come along and check them out, at that point I caught covid and then life got busy.

After finding a parking space, I took a wee walk to find here out.

Here is located down a wee alley, which reminded me a little of Aston lane that same feel…very cool

The Food

I had no idea what to order, so the first two items that caught my eye I just ordered.

Momo Thigh & Kawa (Skin)

Cause this was just a quick stop for me today, I didn’t order too much…but on my next visit I will try a few other options.

On arrival they looked very interesting, and smelled very very nice! my mouth started to water so it was time to dig in.

I started with the momo thigh, this was very tender and the sauce was very nice.

Next was the Kawa, which for me was the winner as its flavour was very good and the texture was so so nice.
