Bibimbap (Glasgow, West End) : Review

V: 28th December 2019

I have never been to Bibimbap in Glasgow before, but now that I stay in the West End I spotted that Bibimbap opened a new location in the spot where Nam Tuk Tram Stop was….so I had to to check it out.

Looking Around

One of my favourite places to visit was a place called Nam Tuk which Bibimbap now occupies so I knew how funky inside was…..so how was it now?

The layout inside is excatly the same, but the design is different.

The first thing I noticed was that the funky wall artwork has now been removed, and that the bar now looks much more minimalistic and cleaner.

What I really liked was the cool multicolours umbrellas and the neon signs on the grassy wall….that was very nice.

The Food

As I said I had never tried here or any Bibimbap before, so it was going to be a very random choice tonight.

Appetiser

Ya Chae Man Doo (v) £5.20

Vegetable Dumpling

So I have had dumplings before in the past, so I thought what better way to start and compare the food here was to try these.

These were very nice, really good flavour and had a slight crunch to the texture. Dipping them in soya sauce also enhanced the flavour, and I really enjoyed these.

Main Course :

Saeu £10.50

Korean style sweet & sour prawn

I spotted that this said it was spicy, but to be honest I thought maybe it would have a tiny kick to it….well I was wrong…

WOW firstly this was VERY spicy, but that could just be me as I am not that great with mega spicy foods.

Secondly the flavour was amazing!!!, if this didn’t have such a kick this would have been a perfect main for me.

Visit Overall :

I am very impressed with Bibimbap, and glad I visited here.

Tonight food wise was really good, but WOW that main was super spicy for me….next time something not as spicy and I will double check with the waitress lol

Wagamama (Glasgow Fort, Glasgow) Trying the Vegan Menu : Review

Invited: 28th January 2020

The guys over at Wagamama sent me an invite to visit the Glasgow Fort branch, to come in and try their Vegan menu and I accepted and set a date.

Yes you read that correct, I said yes to trying some Vegan food….yup 2020 has an interesting start to the year for me.

I haven’t gone out and had any Vegan dishes before, I didn’t know what to expect as well you know me as you have seen my posts…but hey I am always up for trying new things.

Looking Around

I have never driven to the Glasgow Fort before, but to be honest it was very easy.

I have been to Wagamama many years ago, and enjoyed that visit but the one part I didn’t like too much (personal preference) was your sitting next to strangers.

When entering this Wagamama I noticed that here they had a benches area, and had a normal table area which was great so I opted to sit at the table section.

The Food

So tonight its from the Vegan menu, and I really had no idea if I was going to like it or not.

Time to see what it’s like…

Side

Yasai Gyoza £5.95 (Tonight Free)

five steamed dumplings filled with vegetables. Served grilled with dipping sauce

I wanted to have a wee side, to see what another dish was going to be like so I played safe as I have had dumplings at other restaurants.

I tried these on their own, and then with the sauce.

On their own they were nice, but they needed a little more flavour for me. With the sauce really helped for me, and I enjoyed every bite.

Main Course :

Vegan ‘Suika’ Tuna (Tonight FREE)

Wow this was a big portion, and for me looked very interesting.

I was told that the “tuna” is actually dehydrated watermelon which is sliced and seared, which gives it the look and texture of tuna….now theres a first for me to hear you could do that but very cool.

I am not a watermelon person, so I was very hesitant to eat this but it was recommended to me by Wagamama to try so I didn’t want to let them down.

Time to try and see how this was…

So I tried everything on its own, and then combined for the perfect bite.

I hope you are sitting down reading this, as I am going to shock you. This actually was very very tasty and I enjoyed every bite. The watermelon didn’t taste like watermelon for me, so again this was great for me and it tasted really nice.

Desert :

chocolate + orange blossom ice cream (Tonight FREE)

So some Vegan Ice Cream, now this is also another first for me.

On arrival it looked really good, but now it was time to taste…

So this had the texture of normal ice cream, and the taste of a light chocolate and orange flavour. Ok so not as bad as expected, and the orange was very nice.

The chocolate for me (personal preference as I have a sweet tooth) could have been a little stronger in flavour, but overall very impressed and was nice and light.

Visit Overall :

Note : Just because this was an invite, that has not influenced my thoughts in any way. The above is a 100% honest review of the day, and the food.

Firstly a big thanks to Wagamama for tonight’s invite.

I went in expecting to just think meh but came out enjoying what I had tonight, and I could really have the same dish again….I am as shocked at you at reading this to 🙂 If you like vegan food or up for trying something different then I recommend trying this dish and taking a visit to Wagamama.

Kris Eats : La Gramola Restaurant (Spain, Cala Millor)

Since this was my first time in Spain, and in Cala Millor I couldn’t just keep going back to the same place.

Unfortunately due to going at the end of the season a lot of places were closing, so I was limited to where I could eat….but I found La Gramola Restaurant and here is what I had.
