The Rum Slinger Subscription Box 004 (Govanhill): Review

This Months Box

Inside each months box you have your 3 rums to try, plus an information leaflet to tell you about each rum and its tasting notes.

This Months Rums:

R.L. Seales

ABV : 46%

Style : Dark, 10 years

I started with this one, as it was the first one to grab my attention.

This was a new rum name for me, so I was excited to give it a try and see what I thought.

Firstly the smell I got slight hints of caramel, so it was off to a good start.

Taste-wise ohh this was a strong one, first I got a kick from the strength of this which disappeared fast. Then the flavours started to come through, a nice vanilla caramel subtle hint ending on a nice aftertaste.

This is a nice rum, and I could easily see me drinking this one again.

My Rating :

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Plantation 3 Star

ABV : 41.2%

Style : White

I liked the white rum from the previous box, so I was interested to see how this one was.

I opened the bottle and poured it out, and took a smell.

This has a really lovely and sweet and light flavour, even the aftertaste was very nice.

I actually preferred this to the R.L Seales, as I think its sweeter which hits my tastebuds better.

I am now away to add this one to my Amazon Wish List.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Foursquare Spiced

ABV : 37.5%

Style : Spiced

This one I saved for last as I like a nice spiced rum, due to the sweetness.

This had a very subtle caramel sweet smell, now time to pour it.

Oh ok, this caught me off guard, with my first taste I was expecting a caramel or vanilla flavour which I didn’t get. For some reason, I got cinnamon and just a mix of spices aftertaste but I couldn’t pinpoint what ones.

There is zero burn, and its very very smooth.

This is a really nice rum, it’s not one I would say is your typical spiced rum but its one that I could easily enjoy again and again.

This is another one I am adding to my Amazon Wishlist.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Overall :

This was probably the most surprising box for me, as I really enjoyed the white rum and the spiced rum caught me off guard with its taste.

I have loved all these rums, and as you have seen even added a few to my wish list on Amazon.

Unfortunately this will be my last box review, as I am now watching the money as I am looking for a mortgage but please do subscribe and support these guys.

If you like rum and fancy getting some each month delivered to your doorstep then check them out.

This smelled really nice and wow very very nice to taste. As they say it is really refreshing and fruity and I enjoyed every sip.

I could easily have this again, and if I see it in the shops its one I will be buying again.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Mallow & Marsh : Vanilla Marshmallow bar coated in Milk Chocolate

I am not a big Marshmallow fan but I decided to give this a shot.

For me personally it was actually ok, the chocolate was very nice and it worked with the marshmallow.

Overall and its a personal thing I don’t think I would have this again, but as I said I am not a marshmallow fan.

My Rating :

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Maynards Bassetts : Fruit Smoothie Jellies

Visually these looked like they would be lovely just from the package….so now it was time to taste.

I don’t know why, but I expected these to be a little harder in texture but I was so glad they weren’t as they were lovely and soft and packed with flavour.

This bag was finished very fast as they were really nice, and lovely flavours.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

PITCH : Bloc’O’Choc

This was another product from the DegustaBox that just looking at the packaging I couldn’t wait to open.

I love brioche and I love chocolate, so the two combined had to be a winning combo?

I tried one as is and one warmed up, and both were AMAZING!!! the brioche and the chocolate mmmmm

I highly recommend these!!!

Enervit Protein Bar

Normally these types of bars I don’t tend to buy or enjoy, they either are super dry or zero flavour….or worse both so I was very hesitant when trying this one.

Ohh I was very surprised with this as it had both flavour and nice and smooth.

I really enjoyed this and if your searching for a nice protein bar then this one is 100% for you.

My Rating :

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Kellogs Crunch Nut Peanut Butter

I love peanut butter, and could easily say I am addicted to the stuff so when I saw this and from Kellogg’s ohhh I couldn’t wait to pop a slice of toast on and get spreading.

WOW this was perfection in a jar!!!

Its smooth and crunchy at the same time, perfectly sweet, amazing flavour just so so good!!!

This is now my favourite peanut butter and I HEIGHLY recommend it if you love peanut butter.

A solid 5/5

Brynmor Flapjacks : Apple & Raspberry

I love flapjacks, and love trying new ones and this brand for me was new to me.

Taste time…

Oh wow this was very nice, the flavour of the apple and raspberry was subtle but just enough and the texture perfect.

This is another product from this months DegustaBox that I would buy again.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Organic Cheerios : Honey & Chocolate Cereal

I have never had Cheerios before and was interested to see how these tasted especially since they are organic.

I popped open the box and poured out some cereal for my breakfast.

Ohh these were lovely, they had a nice subtle flavour and a nice little crunch to them.

I could see me easily buying these as a nice change from time to time from my usual cereal.

My Rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Lucozade : Tropical (zero sugar)

I like grabbing a bottle of Lucozade every now and then, so I was very happy to see this one plus it was zero sugar and Tropical flavour sounded yum

I don’t mind drinks that are zero sugar, most taste ok….granted some very bland so it would be interesting to try this one.

I decided to take this to work, and enjoy it during my day.

Ohh wow this was lovely, the zero sugar did not impact on taste and it was very tropical mmm I can see myself getting this again and again.

My Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Hippeas : Chickpea Puff Snacks (Salt & Vinegar)

I have had Hippeas products before and enjoyed them.

I have had this one before and just like last time they were nice.

The salt and vinegar flavour is very subtle, and the texture is really good. Personally if the flavour was just a little bit strong they would have been perfect….but that’s a personal thing.

My Rating :

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Filippo Berio : Extra Virgin Oil & Balsamic Vinegar

I have been doing a lot of home cooking recently and always use olive oil, so when I saw this I thought woohoo lets try that next time I cook (see my recipes here)

This was lovely oil, and worked really well with my home cooking.

I have still to use the balsamic vinegar, but I have a few ideas what I can use it on or with so keep watching my posts.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Mug Shot : Mighty Chicken & Mushroom Noodles

Who doesn’t love a quick and easy snack, so I popped the top and added the hot water and waited…

oh boy, now before I start this is a personal taste review so please do try it and see what you think.

For me there was very little flavour, and I even tried adding some salt but still for me it lacked flavour. It also left me with an after taste for a while after I finished it.

My Rating:

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Smarties : Orange Chocolate Sharing Block

They say this is a sharing block, but I didn’t share this one as I needed a chocolate fix.

Who doesn’t love smarties, and who doesn’t love chocolate orange so lets see how this is…

Yum Yum Yum Yum!!! this was soo good! the flavour the texture everything about it was perfect and very moreish.

I will 100% be getting this again.

The Rum Slinger Subscription Box 003 (Govanhill): Review

This Box

This is like my little monthly treat to myself, I get to try new rums and good rums 🙂

Inside you have your 3 rums to try, plus an information leaflet to tell you about each rum and its tasting notes which is always a cool little read.

This Months Rums:

Rebellion Spiced Rum

ABV : 37.5%

Style : Spiced

I decided to start with this one, as I do like a spiced rum.

I poured this out and took a smell ohhhhhh I got some vanilla notes and something else I couldn’t put my finger on.

I took a sip and immediately transported to heaven this was amazing. It was sweet smooth and very moreish.

Part of me wishes I left this to last as it was very nice so much so I added this to my Amazon Wishlist 🙂

Angostura (5yr) Rum

ABV : 40%

Style : Golden, 5yrs

I have not had Angostura for a very long time, so I was looking forward to this.

For the notes I got hints of caramel, and now time to taste.

Ohh this was a lovely rum and it brought back the memory of the last time I tried this. This is a nice sipping rum, one to sit back relax and enjoy, it had zero burn for me but had a love full bodied taste.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Plantation O.F.T.D Rum

ABV : 69%

Style : Overproof

This was a new one for me, and just looking at its ABV I knew this could either be strong with a burn, or strong but smooth so now to taste..

I took a sip and got lovely tastes of caramel and vanilla then BANG wow a strong after kick but it didnt last long and then a nice aftertaste

Wow this one really packs a punch, but a good punch.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was an interesting box this month, one for me was a massive favourite (the spiced rum) and one nearly blew my head off…well I am exaggerating just a bit.

Overall all were very nice, but that spiced rum was the clear winner for me in this months box, I am looking forward to seeing what is in the next one 🙂
