The Picture House (Rutherglen, Glasgow) 2021 : Review

The Visit

The guys at the Picture House asked if I would like to come and take a visit, and support my local.

I have only visited here maybe max twice in the past, so I was looking forward to heading back and checking it out.

The Food

I knew I would like to try a starter and a main, and if I had room a little dessert.

I placed my order and a few mins later I was told they didn’t have a few things, as they were very busy which is great to hear….but it made my decision harder.

After a few mins later I choose my alternatives.

Starter

Fish Tacos
Two charred tortillas stuffed with a freshly hand-battered fish goujon, pico de gallo, Frank’s RedHot® sauce, soured cream and shredded lettuce

Visually when this arrived on the table it looked really good, and I wasn’t expecting two….yes I know it said that in the description but I just glanced and choose it by its title.

I grabbed one and took a big bite…

The first thing that came to mind was the tomatoes needed to be under the lettuce to hold them in place, or to use half the amount as they just kept falling.

Apart from that this tasted really good!!! The flavours as a whole were good, the fish was cooked perfectly and the batter had a lovely crunch to it.

My Rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Main Course

Korean Fried Chicken Burger
Freshly hand-battered mango & lime chicken thighs tossed in Korean BBQ sauce served with mango & chilli sauce

I wanted a burger tonight, but I felt like going for a chicken burger and this is what grabbed my attention.

WOW this was a big burger…

I started with the chips and these tasted great just as they are, they didnt need any salt or anything extra. I then dripped one in the dip and WOW this was such a great tasting dip.

I then took a BIG bite of the burger and again WOW the flavour was so so good!

The chicken was nice and tender, and packed with flavour and as a whole bite it was a REALLY nice burger. I then added some of the dip and it just took it to the next level, so so good!

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Overall :

Firstly a big thanks to the guys at the Picture House for my invite.

I was very happy with tonight, I felt very relaxed from the moment I arrived to when I left.

To be honest I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the food was tonight, as last time it was just OK but tonight REALLY very tasty.

If your in the area then do check it out, and if you stay local why not support your local and visit….I promise you that you will have a very tasty meal.

German Doner Kebab (Byres Road West End, Glasgow) 2021 : Review

The Visit

When I stayed in the West End the location for German Doner Kebab was an Indian Restaurant, which I only ever visited once so I was glad to hear that something new was opening in its place.

The West End is a great area and I am happy GDK opened here, as its something different for the area.

The guys asked me to come and take a visit and try some of their food, I have tried their food before the Boss Box which was very very tasty so I was looking forward to tonights visit.

The Food

I knew I wanted to try a few things, and one item was something I wanted to try for a long time.

Doner KRUNCH Burger
Your choice of doner meats, our original burger sauce and Cool Original Doritos chips smothered in a cheese sauce. All served in a brioche bun.

I couldn’t wait to try this, as it looked and sounded VERY good.

This looked good on arrival, and after all needed photos I took a BIG bite!

All the flavours hit at once, with a lovely texture followed by that Doritos crunch.

This was REALLY good!!! I enjoyed every mouth full

My side was the Cheesy Fries

I tried a chip that didn’t have the cheese, and this was very nice….if I say so nicer than some other fast foods chips…but I wont name names. With the cheese was very nice, and very tasty.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Doner Spring Rolls (mix, chicken, beef)
Your choice of doner meats with jalapeños, wrapped in a light crispy pastry.

Spring Rolls in general never look visually good, as its all about the texture and the fillings.

I opted for the mixed meats, as I wanted to see how that would taste.

I took a bite and my mouth exploded with an amazing flavour!!! these were so so so good! I was with my best friend tonight and he agreed that these were really good….I think he was hoping we got ordered one of these each rather than sharing one order….I wish I had now 🙂

It does come with dips, but the flavour of this didn’t need any dips!

My Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Doner Nachos (chicken, beef, mix)
Cool Original Doritos chips with your choice of doner meats, salsa, melted cheese sauce and jalapeños with a dusting of garlic and paprika seasoning.

This was a random last min order, as I wanted to try one more dish just to get an overall feeling to what GDK do.

Nachos are always a nice wee side, or treat when your hungry and you cant really go wrong. The meats for the nacho was again mixed, just to try something different.

On arrival this looked very nice and very appealing to the eyes.

Time to dig in…

This was very messy but very tasty…..for me very similar to the Crunch burger but more messy.

This was finished very fast and we both enjoyed every bite, and the good part was they also gave you finger clothes which were very much needed!! 🙂

Overall :

Firstly a BIG thanks to German Doner Kebab for inviting me tonight.

Tonight’s food was very nice from start to finish, the ones that stood out for me were the Crunch burger and the Spring Rolls.

NY American Grill (Princess Square, Glasgow) 2021 : Review

The Visit

Its been a while since I have been here, I used to visit here on a regular basis with friends and we always had a good experience.

Today I was going to see the latest Marvel movie, and thought lets visit and get a burger.

The food

As I said at the start of this blog, I felt like a big burger today and wanted to try something I have not had before from here.

The Big Cheese Burger £12.95
NY Classic topped with a double helping of cheese

On arrival this looked really good, and I was MEGA hungry so I couldn’t wait to take a massive bite.

I took a massive bite and mmm this was really good. The burger was perfectly cooked and nice and moist, and the flavours of the whole bite was so good and I finished it very easily and fast.

Normally with a big burger you would feel full and bloated, but this was perfectly cooked and fresh ingredients I felt full but not bloated etc

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Dessert Time…

Yes there is always room for dessert, and today I had to go for something I had from here ages ago.

Key Lime Pie £5.95
Ginger crumb base with a sweet lime cream filling and vanilla ice cream.

I remembered I loved this last time, so I wanted to see if I still would this time round.

After a quick snap, I dug right in as it looked so so good.

AMAZING!! it was very sweet, lovely lime flavour, nice ginger base everything worked together and every bite was mmmm

If you have a sweet tooth like me you need to check this out.

It was nice being back, and just like my previous visits everything was great. The staff here are lovely, the atmosphere was great and the food was perfect.

I am going to be adding here to my top spots page, as I didn’t have that page when I visited a while ago.
