Bibimbap (West End, Glasgow) 2023 : Review

Visit & Vibes

During a recent visit to Glasgow’s West End, I decided to rediscover the charm of BIMBAP, a restaurant I hadn’t visited in quite some time.

Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by the enduring elegance of the place; its aesthetic had remained as captivating as ever. What pleasantly surprised me was the bustling atmosphere, a stark contrast to the rumors I’d heard of this location’s purported misfortune. Many had speculated about the longevity of businesses here, but BIMBAP had not only weathered the storm but thrived.

The Food

KFC Korean Fried Chicken (Small) £7.95
Traditional-style Korean Fried Chicken coated in Crispy Batter

Tonight I wanted to try two dishes, and the first to tantalize my taste buds was none other than the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken).

Opting for the small option, I was pleasantly surprised by its generous size upon arrival. Please pardon the reddish tint in the photos; my dining spot was bathed in a crimson ambiance, courtesy of nearby lighting.

As I took my initial bite, I couldn’t help but admire the exquisite crispiness of the coating, a testament to great preparation. The chicken itself, while decent, fell just shy of wowing my palate. However, a game-changer awaited me in the form of the accompanying sauce. This condiment elevated the entire experience, transforming it into a flavor-packed sensation.

In summary, the KFC here was undeniably enjoyable, but it’s worth noting that its full potential comes to life when coupled with that sensational sauce.

Haemul-Pajeon £7.90
seafood & green onion pancake

My second dish tonight was the seafood and green onion pancake—a dish that piqued my curiosity with its intriguing description. Regrettably, the crimson hue in my photos persisted, a product of my dining environment. My apologies for this.

Once again, I was pleased to find a substantial portion awaiting me. As I savored the initial bites, I found the flavor profile to be, well, just okay. There were no standout elements that elicited a “wow” from my taste buds. The squid within the pancake did exhibit a slight rubbery texture, which was a tad disappointing. Overall, it was a decent dish, but it lacked that extraordinary factor.

However, when I dipped the pancake into the accompanying soy sauce. This simple addition transformed the dish, enhancing its flavors and elevating it from “okay” to quite enjoyable. While not a showstopper, it was a respectable addition to my meal.

Final Thoughts…

Overall tonight’s return was just so-so, but I was glad to see how busy it was and that it has managed to stay open for longer than most restaurants in this building.

Bing Bang Bosh (Glasgow) 2023 : Review

About

Located in the city centre of Glasgow, we’re perfectly located for quick office lunches, walk-in lunches or taking some Bing Bang Bosh away with you! We like to think we have the best Korean street food in a cup and we can’t wait for you to try our choice of vibrant cups and more!

Visit & Vibes

The guys at Bing Bang Bosh initially invited me to their opening evening, but that was the same day as my father’s birthday so they kindly allowed me to pop back later….which was today.

I didn’t know what to expect at today’s visit, as I missed all the promo due to me being out that night and busy that weekend so I was looking forward to the surprise.

On arrival, they had seats outside, which was perfect as the weather right now was amazing.

Inside was very bright and nice, and very very clean.

I spotted on the board behind the counter they did corndogs, so I decided to go for one and something else.

The Food

As soon as I spotted the corndog I had to try it, I have had a few corndogs in the past and even made my own so I had to see how they did it here.

Cheese & Sausage Corndog £na today (normally £5.20)
Hotdog coated in a crispy cornmeal crust.

This looked very good and had a very very good aroma.

I opted for the one with cheese, as I asked a member of staff to suggest one for me.

I took a bite and oh now this was good! the texture was nice and it had a slight crispness to it, this was followed by the outer sauce, and then I got a lot of cheese.

It wasn’t till I took maybe 3 bites then I found no cheese and the sausage…I am guessing the cheese is just at the top.

The sausage had a really nice taste to it, and with the coating and the outer sauces, this was very good!

Personally, I would have liked it to have cheese all around the sausage rather than just the top, but as I said this was very nice.

Tteok-Bokki £n/a today (normally £5.90)
Fried spicy rice cake, sweet and spicy sauce

Along with my corndog I didn’t know what to order so I chose the first thing that caught my eye which was this.

On arrival, this didn’t look like I had imagined it would, as I saw rice cake and thought of something crispy but I am always up for being surprised.

The aroma from this was nice, and I looked forward to digging in.

I took a bite and the texture was very different to what I expected, it was a little rubbery but slightly stuck to my teeth…then the kick hit me wow followed by the flavour which was very nice.

For me this dish was just ok, the kick was a bit much for me but it was ok.

Final Thoughts…

Firstly a big thanks to the guys at Bing Bang Bosh for my invite, and for today’s food.

It’s great to see a new place open in Glasgow as it gives everyone more options and also its something new to check out.

Today I had a nice lunch and enjoyed my corndog though the other dish had too much of a kick for my personal taste but if you like a kick am sure you would love it.

Check them out and let me know what you think.
