My Undiscovered Scotland : Rest and Be Thankful

Elevation: 245 m

Slowly going through my ever growing list of places to see in Scotland, Rest and Be Thankful was next to see.

I decided to take a drive to Inveraray and on route stop at Rest and Be Thankful and check it out.

The Rest and Be Thankful is called this as its where travellers in olden times would stop, rest and be thankful that they had reached the top of their steep climb, before continuing on to their destination.

The drive there is very nice, but you do reach a part just before it where you have to wait for a while due to traffic lights as they are doing major road works…but its worth the wait.

On entering there is a carpark which is free and also a food truck but no toilets.

Now for the view…

I did a vlog on my visit so take a watch so you can see it better.

Have you been here? let me know in the comments.

What Can Expect As A Aging Man?

When it comes to ageing, your gender, biology, and behavioural differences all play a role. Most importantly, other factors under a man’s control can affect how well he ages.

Men who do the following are likely to age better:

  • They do not smoke.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Maintain a healthy weight and diet.
  • Establish a reliable support system.

Ageing affects several different systems in the body. Here are seven commonly afflicted areas, as well as tips for how to address them.

Combat Heart Disease and Hypertension

As we become older, our risk of heart disease and high blood pressure rises. Males over the age of 60 have a 75% probability of acquiring heart disease. (A similar risk is not seen in women until the age of 80.) Maintain appropriate blood pressure and cholesterol, exercise, eat well and do everything you can to quit smoking.

Maintain Your Mental Acuity

Our brains alter as we age, including neuron loss. As a result, memory, brain ability, and response time all suffer. Depression is growing more common as well. Maintain your brain’s sharpness through mental exercises, social activities, music, spending time with family and friends, and, if you prefer, pet care. If depression is an issue, seek psychological assistance.

Monitor Your Metabolism and Sleep

Changes in metabolic rate and hormonal function can cause weight gain and, in rare situations, weight loss. Sleep patterns may change. If you’re having difficulties sleeping, consider going to bed and waking up at the same time every day. Also, if you nap throughout the day, consider cutting back to get a better night’s sleep. These changes can help with the resetting of the circadian cycle. Exercise can also help you sleep better. You can also discuss weight gain or decrease with your doctor.

Exercise Caution When Using Testosterone

Contrary to popular assumption, men with chronic diseases are more likely to have low testosterone that requires treatment, while long-term usage of medications such as opiates or steroids can be the reason. The majority of low testosterone symptoms (fatigue, lack of libido) are caused by underlying medical or psychological factors. Get plenty of exercise and 8 hours of sleep per night, and your “Low-T” symptoms should improve.

Take Care Of Your Hair

Although it is not feasible to avoid hair loss, there are several things you can do to help. It’s a natural part of getting older, but it can affect other aspects of your life, such as your self-confidence. Some people choose hair loss remedies. Before making any decisions, you should understand everything you can about finasteride side effects and the negative effects of therapies like hair transplants.

Don’t Ignore Your Skin

As we age, our skin thickness and loses elasticity, making us more vulnerable to injury. In addition, other lesions, such as sunspots, are growing more common. Examine any skin lesions for changes in shape, consistency, size, and colour. If you notice anything, contact your doctor right immediately.

Take Care of Your Prostate

Your prostate’s size can increase, resulting in decreased urine flow and more regular bathroom visits. There is also an elevated risk of urinary tract infection (UTI) or prostatitis. Furthermore, while women are more likely to experience urinary incontinence, men are not immune. If you experience any urinary difficulties or signs of discomfort or pain, consult your doctor. Most over-the-counter prostate medicines are ineffective.

Reduce Your Chances of Developing Osteoporosis

Later in life, men are more prone than women to acquire osteoporosis. Ten years after women, men are at a higher risk of fracture due to bone fragility, but the severity or mortality associated with a hip fracture, for example, is higher in males. Regular exercise, as well as avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, can help you avoid osteoporosis.

How Do Men And Women Age Differently?

Men and women age differently. Genetics, lifestyle, diet, and environment all influence how men and women age, yet men and women age at different rates and with different outcomes.

Not only do men and women react differently to ageing, but so do men and women’s minds. When regarded as a whole, ageing can be a very different experience for men and women. Let’s examine how men and women age differently.

Average Life Expectancy

It is an undeniable fact that women outlive men almost everywhere on the planet. Some feel that the reason for women’s longer life expectancy is that men frequently engage in more dangerous activities and have more dangerous jobs, such as serving in the armed forces.

Some of the differences are explained, but not all of them. Other factors to consider include the fact that women are more likely than men to seek medical attention and, as a result, may be diagnosed with health problems earlier. Whatever the reason, women live for years longer than males throughout the world.

Hormones

Hormones Aging affects distinct hormones differently in men and women. Women are concerned about changes in estrogen levels as they age. This is particularly true during and following menopause. Changes in levels of testosterone are the most visible hormonal component of male aging.

Brain

In terms of brain ageing, men and women age differently. Men who are overweight, diabetic, or have had a stroke are more likely to suffer from cognitive decline. Women, on the other hand, are far more likely to suffer from cognitive impairment if they depend on others for daily tasks and lack a robust social network.

Ageing is an inevitable aspect of life, and there is nothing you can do about it. Although many individuals wish they could turn back time, it is best to embrace it and become as knowledgeable as possible. Do you have any further suggestions to add to the comments?

My Slain Castle Visit VLOG

I heard years ago that there was a Castle in Scotland that Inspired Dracula’s Castle but at that point I always thought it was in Romania. Recently I started seeing videos on Instagram and they mentioned this castle and I had to check it out.

A friend who loves seeing Scotland as much as me also sent another castle, and I noticed they were close to each other so I thought lets make a day out and check both.

Slains Castle, also known as New Slains Castle to distinguish it from the nearby Old Slains Castle, is a ruined castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It overlooks the North Sea from its cliff-top site 1 kilometre east of Cruden Bay. We both set off from Glasgow and arrived 3 hours later, and we were both blown away at the ruins and also the views around the castle.
