Golden Tulip Marseille Euromed (Marseille, France) 2023 : Review

Visit & Vibes

I was doing the weekend in the South of France and I first stayed in Arles then for the last day I was coming down to Marseille for the Sunday and heading home on Monday and this is where I was staying.

The hotel was located near the new port and only a short walk away from the old port which is where I would be visiting this visit.

The Arrival

On entering the hotel has a very modern and bright style to it, and was also very very clean…this was a good start.

They had a lovely big bar area, and a seating/lounge area and I spotted that the breakfast area was just to the side.

I got a very good vibe, while I waited to check in and for the remainder of my stay, this entrance area was always very clean and had a very relaxed atmosphere.

Bedroom

Once we checked in we were given our room numbers and headed to check the room out and drop out bags before heading out and enjoying the location.

This was my room, and I had a good-sized room with a window looking out onto the port so I was very happy.

Everything was very clean, I couldn’t find any dust traces so I was very impressed.

The bed was extremely comfy to sleep on, and the pillows were also very comfy…they were more on the soft side so if you are a hard pillow person you may need to ask for a hard pillow if you stay here.

Bathroom

Just like everything so far the bathroom was also a very good size and also again spotlessly clean.

Personally, I would have preferred a walk-in shower rather than a bath but that is a personal thing.

I can’t fault anything else with the bathroom, the water was a good temperature, I had good water pressure and they supplied everything you would need for a comfortable stay.

Dining / Breakfast Area

I had booked for bed and breakfast, so when I woke up I was looking forward to seeing the breakfast area and what it had to offer.

On arrival, the breakfast area was a very good size and had the same modern yet relaxing decor and atmosphere as the rest of the hotel.

The options for breakfast were amazing, you could have your standard continental style, to something warm to cereal.

You were spoiled for choices and everything looked fresh and very tasty.

I had a few things and everything tasted great.

Final Thoughts…

From check-in to checkout I can’t fault anything about my stay, the staff were very pleasant, the rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was very good.

You are about a 20min walk to the old port which is where most of the shops and restaurants are located, so it was a great location and also a very good cost.

If you are ever thinking of staying in the area do check this hotel out.

It’s taken me this long to write this up, deliberately as I wanted to make sure I had enough detail and also have the Greece Vlog videos completed.

This is my first visit to Greece (Crete), and I booked my holiday via a travel agency and this was where I would be staying for 5 nights.

I arrived at night so I didn’t get much time to see anything, but this is what my room looked like.

Bedroom Area :

This was very nice and spacious, but the one issue was the bed.

Every time I moved even just a little, it squeaked!! so when I did move more it was squeak squeak squeak…so my sleeping habit had to be changed to not move much.

Bathroom :

For the standard of hotel, this was nice and very clean.

The only issue here for me was the shower had a curtain which I am not a fan off, and the shower head really needed changing as the metal/silver plating was chipping off.

I booked all inclusive, which I have not done for many many years.

What this meant was you got your food (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) and all your drinks….well if it was alcoholic it had to be local wine, local beer etc so all local products which was fine for me.

For me personally the food was just so so, I could see they catered for all but they didn’t really have many Greek dishes which really disappointed me.

The food each day didn’t really change, so I started to get bored with seeing the same foods.

Don’t get me wrong what I did eat was nice, just not amazing….for the Greek food I had to travel to different restaurants near me or when I took a trip somewhere.

Location :

I wish I had booked somewhere else, but I only found out by doing some travelling.

The beach which is a short walk from the hotel is so so more rocky than sandy beach as I was expecting. So another disappointment as I couldnt really, go and sun on the beach here.

About a 20min walk to the left of the hotel you can find a local SPAR where you can get drinks, food etc so this was useful when I was going a trip or two to get some water bottles.

Due to me not being someone who just sits in the hotel 24/7 I visited a few places :

1. Heraklion

To travel here it takes around 40 mins by bus from the hotel.

2. Malia

This is a very nice tourist area, with many shops, restaurants and a great beach.

10-12 mins by bus from this hotel.

3. Lerapetra

Here is a very nice place to visit, and one I would recommend either going via a company or doing yourself.

4. Spinalonga

While in Crete I visited the island of Spinalonga, officially known as Kalydon. Here is a short walk around video, but please do take the tour it’s really educational and interesting to see.

5. Agios Nikolaos

Just a short video but worth a visit.

Overall

Overall my first visit to Greece (Crete) was a good one, the weather wasn’t great but it was much better than what I would have had if I had stayed in Glasgow.

The hotel for what I paid was good, but I am sure if I just spent a little more time on GoogleMaps I could have found a better-situated hotel.

The staff were very nice and very helpful, and the hotel was nice looking…just the bed issue and shower head issue.

Would I go back? maybe not as I said I wasn’t happy with the location as Malia looked nice and the beach was very nice, and a few other places I visited looked much nicer so sorry guys.

If I do go back to Greece I may try another island.

If your looking to just stay in the hotel and by the hotel pool, this hotel will be perfect for you. If like me you like to walk to a sandy beach etc, then you should try a better located hotel.
