Recently, I visited the Isle of Skye, a destination that had been on my to-visit list for many years. Finally, I had the opportunity to explore parts of it.
The motivation behind this visit stemmed from a gift I received from friends last year—an overnight stay at the Duisdale House Hotel. After planning, I booked the trip and marked the date on my calendar.
Considering the long drive ahead, I departed from Glasgow very early in the morning, with Portree being my first main stop.
Portree

Upon arriving in Portree, I made a beeline for the harbour, eager to see the iconic coloured houses that are often featured in photos and on Instagram. After parking the car, I took a stroll to get a closer look.
The harbour offers lovely views, but the colourful buildings are not solely residential; rather, there’s a mix of establishments such as a hotel, a charity shop, and a few others.
Before descending to the harbour, there’s a main area bustling with shops and cafes, some of which are quite charming.
Overall, if you’re seeking picturesque-coloured houses by a harbour, I’d recommend heading to Tobermory instead.
Personally, if I were to revisit the Isle of Skye, I’d likely skip this spot. Once you’ve seen it, once is enough, and a stroll around the area typically takes no more than 20-30 minutes, depending on your walking pace.
The Oyster Shed

After visiting Portree, I programmed my sat nav to navigate to the Oyster Shed, a place I had heard about and was eager to explore. Unfortunately, my friends had previously attempted to visit, only to find it closed each time. However, luck was on my side today as it was open for business.
The Oyster Shed features a small car park, and true to its name, it resembles a shed from the outside. Upon entering, you’ll find various items available for purchase, as well as options for ordering food.
I had previously sampled an oyster during my time in Edinburgh. However, I felt compelled to try one from here, anticipating it would be exceptionally fresh given the reputation of the Oyster Shed.
Overall, my experience was satisfactory, much like my first encounter with oysters. I still prefer mussels, but I’m pleased that I gave oysters another try. I look forward to revisiting the Oyster Shed during my next trip to Skye to explore other menu options.

Talisker Distillery

While I’m not particularly fond of whisky, I’m open to exploring and developing a taste for it in the future. However, at present, it’s not something I actively pursue. Nonetheless, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to visit the Talisker Distillery, even if it was just to see the interior and forgo the tour.
Island Random Stops

As you can see, some of these stops were absolutely stunning, and this is all I managed to do on my short visit.
I do plan on returning to explore more because there’s plenty that I missed and plenty that I’ve now added to my list.
However, if you do visit here, the above are some of the highlights for you to check out. If you have any other nice suggestions for places to see, feel free to let me know in the comments.
