The Tobermory Hotel (Isle of Mull) 2026 : Review

Visit & Vibes

I first visited Tobermory just over two years ago for an invite and fell in love with the island, the little shops, the harbor, and the stunning scenery. I knew I had to go back.

Upon arrival, the hotel stood out immediately because of its vibrant color, just like in the photos. After parking the car and taking a quick look around with a big smile on my face, I headed inside to check in.

Booking Experience

The booking experience was very easy, as I booked directly through the hotel’s website.

Arrival and Check-In

On arrival, I was welcomed by the receptionist, who took my details and handed me the room key. She was very helpful, explaining everything from the location of my room to where breakfast was served.

Bedroom and Amenities

Upon entering my room, I found the decor to be more traditional than modern, which was quite lovely. I had booked a harbor view, and it was a delight to see.

Fresh towels and a bathrobe were neatly folded on the bed awaiting my arrival. The bed was a good size, and there was also a small sofa bed for a child; I had opted for the family room primarily to secure that sea view. I must say, however, that the sofa bed needed some TLC. It stood out like a sore thumb due to the poor condition it was in compared to the rest of the room, which was in good condition.

The room included tea and coffee-making facilities, along with plenty of drawers and storage for my clothes. I slept very well; the bed was comfortable, the room was cozy, and I didn’t hear any noise from neighboring rooms or the street. The soundproofing was excellent.

Bathroom

The bathroom was a pleasant surprise; it had a very modern look and was spotless.

However, things became a bit tricky when I actually used it. Because of the angled ceiling and my height (I’m 6’1″), I had to lean to the side or backward in certain spots. Getting in and out of the shower required similar maneuvering.

That said, the shower itself was excellent. The water warmed up instantly, making for a great experience.

Dining / Breakfast Area

The breakfast area was located downstairs. The hotel recommends booking a time slot, as it can get busy (they send an email regarding this prior to your stay).

I was lucky that it wasn’t too crowded when I went down, so I managed to get a window seat with a lovely view.

The hotel offers a great selection of hot breakfast items, including vegan options, which is a fantastic bonus. They also provide cereals, pastries, and tea or coffee. I opted for a mix of hot food followed by a pastry, as I had a long drive ahead of me.

The staff this morning were very pleasant and explained that the service was buffet-style. The food was nice and definitely hit the spot before my journey home.

Location

In terms of location, it is perfect if you only plan to visit Tobermory. However, if you want to explore the rest of the island, I highly recommend bringing a car. There are some truly lovely spots to discover—if you need a few suggestions, feel free to check out my other post!

Final Thoughts…

Overall, my return to Tobermory was fantastic. It was wonderful to be back and have more time to explore the shops and soak up the atmosphere. I even made sure to stop by the Mishnish Bar for a wee drink, as I’d loved its vibe during my last visit.

Despite the slight issue in the bathroom and the chair needing some attention, I had a great time at the hotel and the view from my room was spectacular.
