Blair Drummond Smiddy Farm Shop (Stirling) 2024 : Review

Visit & Vibes

I decided to take another short drive to Blair Drummond Smitty Farm Shop, both to explore the shop and to grab some lunch. I enjoy visiting these types of places because they support local businesses, offering fresh, high-quality products. While they may be a bit pricier, the quality is worth it, and supporting local is always a fantastic idea.

The Food

Homemade Macaroni Cheese £9.95
Lightly seasoned macaroni pasta, cooked with the Smiddy cheese sauce. Served with a salad garnish.

I’ve visited this place a few times and tried various items from the menu. Today, for some reason, the homemade macaroni and cheese caught my eye.

Unsure if I’ve had it before, I decided to give it another shot or perhaps try it for the first time.

Upon arrival, I received a generous portion size with a pleasant but not overpowering aroma, accompanied by a lovely salad garnish on the side. Not being a fan of salads, I left that untouched.

Digging in, the macaroni and cheese was piping hot, as expected. The flavor was enjoyable, not overly strong, but a well-balanced cheese taste. I did find it necessary to add a pinch of salt, not my usual preference, but it enhanced the flavor.

Overall, the portion size, flavor, and value for money were excellent. If you’re a mac and cheese fan, it’s worth trying when you visit this place.

Moffat House (Moffat) 2024 : Review

Visit & Vibes

During this visit, I made a brief pit stop on my way to Dumfries for an overnight stay.

While en route, I spontaneously decided to pause in Moffat for a leisurely lunch.

Having never been to Moffat House before, I thought it would be a good opportunity to explore.

As I entered, I was welcomed by the friendly staff who promptly guided me to my table.

The interior of the establishment was charmingly adorned, and the section where I was seated offered a delightful view of the garden area.

The Food

Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese Bagel £7.50

As I headed down for a dinner, bed, and breakfast experience, I aimed to leave room for trying multiple dishes at the place. Thus, I chose the bagel with salmon and cream cheese to keep things light.

Upon arrival, the presentation was excellent. Once again, the staff proved to be delightful, offering assistance with warmth and attentiveness. With the first bite, it became evident that this choice was exceptional.

The bagel had a subtle warmth, contributing to its freshness. The salmon was remarkably fresh, bursting with flavour, and the cream cheese complemented everything perfectly.

Each subsequent bite mirrored the initial bite, making this a perfect lunch. I’d gladly choose this again during my visit, and given the enticing menu, I might explore other options as well.

Stack & Still (Braehead, Glasgow) 2024

Visit & Vibes

Today, after meeting up with some friends, we decided to go to Stack and Still in Braehead Shopping Centre to get our pancake fix.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to one and I was looking forward to trying either something new or revisiting something I’ve had in the past.

Today it was quite busy, which was really nice to see, but we managed to get a table.

The Food

BBQ PULLED PORK STACK £11.95
Double Buttermilk Stack • House Slaw • Spicy BBQ Pulled Pork Mozzarella • Chipotle Mayo • Pickled Red Onion • Coriander

After perusing the menu, I opted for a familiar choice—the BBQ Pulled Pork Stack, a dish I’ve relished in the past.

I remembered it being remarkably tasty, and I wanted to confirm if it still lived up to my recollection.

Upon its arrival, the dish looked enticing, accompanied by a delightful aroma of pulled pork and chipotle mayo.

The pancakes were notably fluffy with a delightful taste. As I indulged in each bite, the amalgamation of flavors proved to be exquisite, evoking fond memories.

Despite being a substantial dish, I managed to savor every bit.

Overall, it was a nice dish and I highly recommend trying it if you share a fondness for pancakes and pulled pork.

TATER TOTS £3.95
Cajun

Today, I decided to try a side—a deviation from my usual routine here. The tater tots with Cajun spice immediately caught my attention.

Upon their arrival, they were visually appealing, and their aroma was pleasant.

Taking a bite, I found the tater tots to be perfectly cooked and exceptionally delightful.

Unfortunately, the Cajun flavour wasn’t very pronounced, but that didn’t bother me much. The perfectly cooked tater tots were so tasty that it compensated for the mild Cajun taste.

This dish is incredibly easy to nibble on, and I could see myself ordering it repeatedly.

Highly recommended for those who enjoy a tasty and easily enjoyable snack.

Chocolate Milkshake £6.00

Venturing into something new, I decided to sample the milkshakes here.

Being quite particular about milkshakes, I was eager to assess their rendition.

Upon arrival, the presentation was appealing, but upon tasting, it fell into the “just okay” category.

It was a flavorful chocolate milkshake, but nothing extraordinary—reminiscent of an old-school chocolate shake.

While it was undoubtedly nice, I hesitate to say it justified the £6 price tag.

Nevertheless, it complemented today’s dish, providing a subtle touch of sweetness to balance the savoury flavours.
