There are lots of fitness apps on the apps stores on our phones, some free some paid but do they really work?
I set myself a challenge to see if they would help as I would like to try and loose weight, but would these help with what I was already doing? time to find out.
Obviously the best way to loose weight is to eat a balanced diet and do some exercise, but lets see how these do on their own.
The Apps
I wont name the apps that I tried as you will see why come the end of the review, but I was using the apps for the following areas:
- Sit-ups
- Calorie Counting
- Push-ups
- Planks
- Squats
- Steps
The ones I have continued to use are : My AppleWatch for my steps and for the Calorie Counting I use MyFitnessPal.
I tried the apps for a solid 4 months, and did the daily exercises, at first it was very difficult and on days I was very sleepy it was hard to motivate myself to get up and do them.
I also didn’t binge on extra food or snacks.
After 4 Months
After 4 months I was able to do more pushups, more situps and squats but I didnt really visually see any results.
The results I wanted were to get a flatter stomach, loose weight and just overall tone up, I knew these were not going to do that but I thought they would help…
The planks app did help a little but I wouldn’t say it was a massive change, but I have kept up the planks just using the timer on my phone for 3 mins a day.
What I am Still Doing:
I am not wanting to join a gym or start a crazy fad diet, I want to do what’s best for me.
I am still calorie counting using MyFitnessPal, I make sure I log everything and stay within the limit daily. I also walk for a minimum of 4km a day, and try and get my steps count up.
Diet wise I just try and have a balanced meal during the week, and if I do have a wee treat I keep that for the weekend.
During the week I drink 95% water, and at weekends is when I will have a coke or a wee beer if I am out. I don’t snack or take any sweets during the week unless its an event or I am out at the weekend and I feel like a wee treat.
Overall
Diets, apps etc are all good if you stick with them and eat a balanced diet all the time. The best way is to just watch what you eat during the week, make sure you get a lot of steps in daily and any extras will be good and help in your weightless journey.
At the time of posting I have been doing this for a solid 90% of the year and I am going to continue and aim to fully tone up.
Let me know what has worked for you.
