Visit & Vibes
Well, well, well—this was a Rum Club with a twist, and it was really good fun!
If you’ve been following my posts about the Glasgow Rum Club, don’t forget to click the link in the blog to find out more, grab your tickets, and come join us!
For those who haven’t read my previous posts, here’s how it usually works: we’re typically joined by either a brand ambassador or someone directly from a featured rum brand. They give us a talk about the rum—how it’s made, some background on the brand, and then we sample several rums. After that, the restaurant brings out some food, and that’s the usual Rum Club format.
But this time, there was a twist—rum trivia! And honestly, it added a great layer of fun and banter to the night. Don’t get me wrong, Rum Club is always a good laugh, but tonight it felt like everyone was really getting into the spirit (pun intended) and having even more fun than usual. It was definitely one of the best ones so far

We were joined by Jamie MacDonald, Co-Owner of NB Distillery, along with author and educator Greg Hill, who brought not just their expertise, but also plenty of rum fun, trivia, and some great discussion on rum education. A fantastic duo that really made the evening stand out.

Tonight’s featured brand was from North Berwick, which just happens to be one of my favourite places for a day out. I love taking a drive there, browsing the shops, and walking along the beach before heading home. So, I was genuinely intrigued to learn their distillery is near the castle—somewhere I know well! I’ll definitely be checking it out in person. Who knows, maybe I’ll even plan an overnight stay in North Berwick, so I can sample a few rums and not have to worry about driving home the same day.
The night kicked off with an introduction to both hosts, and right in front of everyone, we were given a sample of the first rum. This was then followed by the second, third, and fourth samples. The representative from North Berwick Rum was very informative, and quite a few people in the group found some of the details he shared really fascinating. I have to admit, the rums were excellent and are now definitely on my radar to purchase.

The trivia section was great fun.
We had to guess the correct answers shown on the screen, and the host had a fantastic personality—he was a great laugh and really brought the energy, making that part of the night super entertaining.
There was also a small competition towards the end for a chance to win a copy of one of his books. Unfortunately, I didn’t win, but I did get a proper look at the book when it was passed around. It was really well laid out, packed with interesting information, and it’s definitely something I’d recommend checking out if you’re a fan of rum.
As for the food, Tropical Café did an amazing job once again.

I honestly can’t fault it. The chicken was perfectly cooked and served with a delicious sauce—whatever it was, it was seriously addictive. I could have easily eaten plate after plate! Every dish they bring out for us at Rum Club is packed with flavour, works brilliantly with the rums we’re tasting, and is always super tasty.
As I’ve said before, if you fancy coming along, Rum Club is held monthly in Glasgow at Tropical Café. Click the link in the blog to grab your ticket—it’s around £22, and it’s 100% worth it. You get to sample incredible rums, learn about different brands, and enjoy a delicious dish from the team at Tropical Café.
It was a fantastic night—plenty of laughs, loads of fun, and one I’ll definitely remember!
