I was recently invited back to The Crab and Lobster Fish Shack, located in South Queensferry. I had visited not too long ago for their pre-launch and absolutely loved it, so I was delighted to receive another invite to check them out again.

Just like last time, the interior was lovely with a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff were all extremely pleasant and friendly, and the place was really busy, which I’m so pleased to see! It’s great that things are going so well for them.

I decided to start with a starter. Their starter menu was excellent—there were at least four dishes I would have loved to try, but I had to choose just one, and here’s what I went for.

When it arrived, the presentation was great, and there was an incredible aroma coming from the dish, which I think was from the sauce. I couldn’t wait to dig in.

For my first bite, I tried the haggis fritter on its own. It was perfectly cooked and the haggis itself was fantastic. I’m not sure where they source it from, but it was incredibly tasty. The batter had a lovely crispness that added a great texture.

I then tried the sauce on its own—it was absolutely amazing. Really addictive! When I combined everything together, that’s when it went to the next level.

The red pepper sauce wasn’t spicy—it just had a lovely, well-balanced flavour that paired beautifully with the haggis. You could taste all the individual elements, and nothing overpowered anything else. It was absolutely incredible.

When I finished, I honestly could have eaten another two. That’s how good it was. If you’re a haggis fan, you need to come here and try this. I highly, highly recommend it!

Monkfish Gratin

I sat down and was told about one of their standout dishes before being handed the menu. To be honest, there were so many tempting options I would have loved to try, but I opted for this one as it sounded particularly good—and I was curious to see how it tasted.

When it arrived, the presentation was once again fantastic. It came with a side of chips and a portion of peas served in a light, creamy mint sauce.

The main dish featured monkfish topped with some crab and a rich cheese sauce. From the very first bite, everything worked beautifully together, delivering an absolutely amazing flavour. I genuinely enjoyed every single bite from start to finish—it’s one of those dishes I could easily see myself ordering again and again on future visits.

Every element on the plate—from the sides to the monkfish—complemented each other perfectly. The flavours were well-balanced, nothing was overpowering, and everything was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully.

If you’re a monkfish fan, I highly recommend getting yourself here to try this dish. Honestly, it might just become your new favourite!

Final Thoughts…

Firstly, a massive congratulations to the team here for doing so well since my last visit! Looking around, everyone seemed to be having a relaxed, enjoyable evening, and absolutely loving the food. So a big well done on your continued success—I truly hope it keeps going strong.
