Read Part 1 …. Read Part 2 … Read Part 3 … Read Part 4 … Read Part 5 … Part 6 and part 7 and part 8 and part 9
If you’ve been following my previous renovation posts, you’ll know it’s taken quite a while to get to this stage—mostly because I’m not the most DIY-savvy and have been waiting on others to help with various tasks, plus working 9-5 doesn’t help either.
From trying to find someone to waiting for them to get back to me, it’s been a bit of a process. But now, I’m finally at the last stage, and if you keep reading, you’ll get to see the final part.
The Bedroom
The next room I wanted to complete was the bedroom, especially since finding a plumber was becoming extremely difficult. I thought, ‘Let’s just get this done,’ and that would be another room finished.
One of my friends works for a carpet company in Cambuslang called Step by Step, located on Cambuslang Main Street, so I decided to message him to see if they could help me finally get the bedroom carpeted.

The team came out, measured the room, helped me select a carpet, and fitted it. The service was absolutely amazing. I’ll do a separate post on this, as I like to promote good companies, so keep an eye out for that. As you can see from the pictures above, the carpet completely transformed the room, and I’m extremely happy with the final results.
The Bathroom
Finally, I reached the last room, and I knew this would be a challenge. I had already started tearing things out and doing as much prep work as possible for the plumbers and tilers, as you’ve seen in previous posts. Now, I needed a plumber to install my rainfall shower, move the radiator pipes slightly, and adjust the sink and toilet pipes.
Throughout this process, I kept changing my mind about whether I should go with wet wall for quickness and cost, since it’s cheaper, or invest in tiles, which would cost a bit more. After some back and forth, I decided to take the plunge and go with tiles, so I started looking into styles I liked.
After trying several plumbers—many of whom let me down by either not showing up or dropping out of conversations halfway through—I finally found one and decided to accept their quote just to get the job done.
The plumber spent about four days working on the project since it was a bit tricky, but in the end, the shower area was finished, and the rest of the pipes were moved and ready for when everything gets fitted.
During this process, I found some tiles I liked, but the next step was deciding on the size. I was advised that smaller tiles are easier and quicker to install, while larger tiles might take a bit longer, potentially increasing the cost.
After careful consideration, I decided to go with smaller tiles for the bathroom floor and larger tiles for the walls, as I had seen this combination elsewhere and thought it looked great.
When I first looked at the tiles in the showroom, they appeared a bit whiter than when I picked them up, but they were still very nice. They have subtle hints of cream with touches of grey running through them, and when the light shines on them, they create a warm effect. For the bathroom floor, I chose black tiles to create a contrast, which works really well with the white toilet and sink units. Paired with my black radiator and white ceiling, it creates a striking effect. I plan to add more colour later, possibly through accessories like tiles, blinds, etc., but for now, this setup is absolutely perfect for me.

The Tiles
A while ago, one of my good friends gave me the number of a tiler they had used. I decided to contact him, get a quote, and if it was reasonable, hire him to get the next part of the job done.
The tiler spent about a week working, and he was absolutely amazing. His work is a solid 10 out of 10, and I highly recommend him. Just standing there and looking at this stage of the process, I could finally see the room being transformed, and it looked fantastic.
Once the tiles had set, the bathroom ceiling was painted with special paint, and the spotlights were installed. When I turned the lights on, it added another ‘wow’ factor for me, as I could finally see the bathroom coming together.

Now that the tiles were done, it was finally time to finish the bathroom: install the shower screen, fit the rainfall shower, toilet, sink, and radiator, and rehang the bathroom door.
Luckily, I knew someone who could help. He’s an all-round handyman with his own business, and I messaged him to see if he could fit me in. He was kind enough to squeeze me in between other jobs, and after a few days of work, the bathroom was finally complete.

As you can see from the pictures above, the transformation is amazing. The bathroom went from super basic to absolutely stunning. I’m so glad I took the time to save up, didn’t rush, and spent a little extra to get a beautiful space.
After a year and five months, my home renovation is finally complete. Now, it’s time to move everything in, organize the space, and shop for kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and household essentials.
