Visit & Vibes
After not going out much for nearly a year and a half due to focusing on my house renovation to save money, I finally went out now that it’s move-in time. I decided to treat my dad, who has helped me a lot with all the fixes, changes, and so many other things. As a thank-you for all his help, I took him to one of the places he really loves but hasn’t visited in a while: Swadish.

As always, the staff here were very welcoming and lovely, and they remembered me, so it was great to catch up with them. I also had a nice chat with Ajay, making tonight’s visit even more enjoyable. We were both really looking forward to our meal.

The Food
CRISPY KEKDA £15.00
Soft-shell crab, pepper, garlic, pickled papaya, samphire, tomato coconut chutney

Since I hadn’t been here for a while, I decided to start with something I loved the last couple of times I visited: the crispy soft-shell crab.
When it arrived, the presentation was absolutely perfect—visually stunning—and the aroma was incredible. My mouth was watering, and I couldn’t wait to dig in.
This dish is just amazing. The soft-shell crab had a gorgeous flavour, and combining it with the chutney and everything else on the plate took it to another level. It was absolute perfection on a plate. This has always been one of my favourite starters here, and I highly recommend trying it!

KERALAN DUCK £25.00
Traditional curry, Devon free-range duck breast, beetroot poriyal, fennel

For my main, I wanted to try something different—a dish I hadn’t had here before. One that stood out to me was the Keralan duck.
Once again, the presentation was beautiful, and the aroma of the dish was amazing. I don’t normally order duck, so this was a bit of a risk for me, but as I said, I wanted to try something new and see how it turned out.
Taking my first bite, I found the duck cooked to perfection—it was literally melt-in-your-mouth. Combined with the curry and all the other elements on the plate, it was taken to another level. The flavours were astounding—absolute perfection. Every component complemented the others without overpowering their unique tastes. It was so, so good, and I’m so glad I took the chance.
If you’re a fan of duck and curry, I highly recommend trying this dish—you won’t be disappointed. It’s something I would happily have again, as I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

CHEF’S CHILDHOOD FAVOURITE PETIT FOURS £10
Coconut Burfi (An Indian Fudge)
Peda (Caramelised Fudge)
Kaju Burfi (Cashewnut Fudge)
Til ke Ladoo (Sesame And Jaggery Ball)

I couldn’t end tonight with just two courses—I had to have dessert. I noticed a new dish on the menu titled Chef’s Childhood Favourites Petit Fours, which caught my attention.
This dessert included Burfi, Peda, Coconut Burfi, and Ladoo. Being a fan of Indian sweets, I was already familiar with all of these and knew I had to try it.
When it arrived, the presentation was stunning—super cute and absolutely perfect for this dessert. The hardest part was deciding what to start with and what to save for last!
Each sweet was absolutely delicious, but the Coconut Burfi and Ladoo were my two favourites. I could have easily had at least another serving of each and still craved more!
If you’re a fan of Indian sweets and looking for a delightful dessert, I highly recommend this. It was the perfect end to an amazing meal, and the dish also comes with tea or coffee.

Final Thoughts…
From my first visit to tonight, the service at Swadish has always been outstanding. The staff are consistently friendly, and the food is absolutely exceptional, and tonight was no different.
If you’ve never been and are looking for a fine-dining Indian restaurant, this is the place to go. Yes, the prices are a bit higher than average, but you get what you pay for—amazing produce, incredible food, excellent service, and a fantastic experience.
Swadish remains one of my top restaurants to visit, as it never fails to impress every time I go.
