New House Renovations (Part 3)

Slowly Taking Shape

After all the window replacements, wall-moving, and layout planning, the next exciting step was to decide what to do with the ceilings in the hall, kitchen, living area, and bedroom.

They were currently covered with Artex, which didn’t look too bad, but I was aiming for a more modern, sleek look with smooth ceilings. At first thought, due to costs, I was going to leave it, but I decided to get a few quotes and one came in at a good cost.

So, I embarked on the journey to find the right professionals for the job, reaching out to plasterers to get quotes for both full plastering and ceiling skimming.

After talking to a handful of experts, I finally found the perfect fit. I have to say; this person’s work was nothing short of exceptional. The transformation was remarkable; my house was slowly evolving from a construction site into a cozy home. The quality of the job left me in awe, and the photos speak for themselves.

With the plastering complete, it was time to be patient and let it dry.

I learned that fresh plaster is like a sponge, so I needed to apply two coats of water and paint mixture to prepare the surface for the final painting. It’s incredible how many little things I’m discovering during this renovation journey.

Once the plaster had thoroughly dried, I moved on to the pre-painting stage, which I decided to do twice to ensure a smooth finish.

After this, it was all about those final touches, like filling in any gaps around doors and taking care of those tiny imperfections. I also chose to start with the hall, and you can see the transformation in the photos.

I even got the stone wall in the hall flattened and plastered (this was the outside part now inside) and what a difference it made!

Stay tuned for part three of my renovation journey as we delve deeper into the process of making my house a beautiful, modern home!
