Visit & Vibes
I was kindly invited down to Dunfermline to revisit Dhoom as it was time for the launch of their new menu.
I visited last time and tried the previous menu, which was really good, so I was really looking forward to tonight.
The chef had travelled around different regions of India, selecting several dishes that he absolutely loved. He then decided these would inspire his new menu, adding his own unique twist to each dish.
For me, the last menu was an amazing food journey, so I was extremely excited to see what he had created this time. I couldn’t wait to try the dishes he was going to serve and experience the flavours he had brought back with him.

The NEW Menu

CALCUTTA VEG BHAJIA & POONDU RASAM
Crispy assorted vegetable pakora from Kolkata & Dhoom’s take on traditional tomato & tamarind rasam.

The first of the 10 courses arrived, which was the pre-starter. I started with the vegetable pakora and this was really good. Obviously, any pakora that is freshly made tastes amazing, but the vegetable pakora here is especially tasty. The added sauce didn’t take away from the flavour of the pakora at all, it simply complemented it. Overall, it was just really, really good.
The second pre-starter was a soup. I didn’t quite know what to expect, but I did have a soup the last time I was here and it was really good, so I was excited to see what this one would be like. It turned out to be absolutely amazing. I’m not usually a big fan of soup dishes, but I honestly could have had many more of this. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.
Based on the pre-starters alone, I could already tell that I was in for an amazing food adventure with the courses that followed. It was such a great start to the meal.

ALOO CORN CHOP
Inspired from popular Bengali tealime snack, polato and sweetcorn cutlets from Kolkala, eastern part of India

One of the courses from Dhoom’s new menu arrived, and this dish looked really interesting. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect just from looking at it, but based on my previous visit and the excellent pre-starters, I knew it was going to taste really good.
It turned out to be very tasty. The dish was light, which was perfect considering this was a 10-course menu. The outside had a nice crispness, while the inside was soft, fluffy, and packed with flavour. Paired with the sauce, it made for another really delicious dish.
At this point, I was really happy to be here. I was thoroughly enjoying everything so far and couldn’t wait to see what the next dishes would bring.

CHOWPATTY SEV PURI CHAAT
A tangy chaat made using crispy papdi, mint and tamarind sauce. loved throughout India, a popular snack of Mumbai and best enjoyed on Mumbai’s Beaches in the west of India.

Another course from Dhoom’s new 10-course menu arrived, and as soon as it was placed in front of me, I recognised what it was. I couldn’t wait to try it.
Taking the first bite brought an explosion of flavours. The crispy pastry added a wonderful texture, and when combined with the filling and the other elements of the dish, it created something really special. Once again, it was another extremely tasty yet light dish, which worked perfectly as part of the tasting menu. It was so good that I honestly could have eaten another one.
So far, every dish on this 10-course menu had been exceptional. At this point, I was really excited to see what the next courses would bring.

FISH KOLIWADA
A popular spicy and crispy fish preparation, inade by the local fishermen from the Koli community along the Konkan Coast in the west of India.

Another course from the menu arrived, and this one looked very interesting. I was really looking forward to trying it as, once again, I didn’t quite know what to expect, apart from the fact that it would probably be extremely delicious.
Taking a bite, it was a little messy because of the sauce, but wow, this was perfectly cooked. The fish had a lovely flavour, and the batter had a really nice crispness to it. This dish had great textures throughout, and the added sauce really elevated the fish to another level. Overall, it was extremely tasty and another dish I could easily have eaten more of.
So far, this menu has been exceptional, and I’ve really enjoyed trying all of these dishes.

ZAFARANI MURGH MALAI TIKKA
A Mughlai royal dish, that involved marinating chicken overnight, grilled fresh and served over a creamy, white sauce infused with saffron, cardamom, white pepper and kasoori methi from Punjab, in the Northern part of India

The next dish was a chicken dish. Visually, it looked interesting, but the aroma coming from it was fantastic and I couldn’t wait to dig in.
I started with a small bite of the chicken on its own. The chicken was really tender and had a lovely flavour. I then tried it with the white sauce, which elevated an already tasty dish to another level. You could taste the saffron, the cardamom, and the pepper, which all worked beautifully together.
This was incredibly delicious. Honestly, tonight with this menu my taste buds were being completely spoiled. It was another dish that I could easily have eaten again.

PESTO LAMB CHAPLI KEBAB
Chef Prasad’s healthy take on fried chapali kebab, a dish brought to India from Afghanistan by traders, refugees and sellers, lamb minced with basil, ginger, garlic, onion, green chillies. first steamed and then grilled, from Lucknow, in the northern part of India

The next dish arrived and, visually, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it or what to expect. However, as soon as I took a bite, I realised this was something special. The lamb wasn’t overpowering at all; instead, it had a lovely, delicate flavour. It was incredibly tender and simply melted in my mouth.
The pesto added an extra layer of flavour, and together with the sauce on the dish, everything worked beautifully. Whatever the chef has done here was absolutely amazing.
It was one of the nicest lamb kebabs I’ve had in a long time, and as I mentioned, it just melted in my mouth.

PANEER TIKKA MAKHANWALA
Overnight marinated Indian homemade cottage cheese, called Paneer, finished over griddle plate served with a velvety makhani tomato-based sauce from Delhi, northern part of India

Another course I was really looking forward to from tonight’s menu was the Paneer Tikka. I’m usually very 50/50 with paneer, sometimes it’s just okay, and other times it’s really good, so I was curious to see how it would be done here and whether it would fall into the “okay” category or the “very good” one. Based on the dishes so far, though, I had a feeling it was going to be excellent.
When it arrived, the presentation was lovely. The paneer was the perfect portion size for this style of tasting menu, and the aroma coming from the sauce was fantastic.
I first tried some of the paneer on its own and, honestly, it was exceptional. The flavour was so good that part of me could hardly believe it was paneer. I then tried it with the sauce, which also worked really well, but personally the paneer on its own was so delicious that it didn’t really need anything else.

Next up was a short pause before the main course arrived, and we were presented with a small dish of ice cream. Think of it as a little palate cleanser before the main dish. This one had a lovely coffee flavour with hints of ___, and it was really good.
After all the wonderful and varied flavours from the previous courses, this was the perfect little dish to refresh the palate. It worked beautifully as a reset before moving on to the main course.
MAIN DISH : KING PRAWN METHI MALAI
A punjabi style juicy and succulent, king prawns cooked in a rich onion and charmagaz sauce flavoured with fenugreek, cumin. ginger, garlic, and garam masala.

At the start of the experience, this is where you decide what you would like for your main course. To be honest, all of the options on the menu sounded fantastic and I could easily have chosen any of them. Normally I would have gone for either the fish curry or the chicken curry, but tonight I decided to try something different and opted for the King Prawn Methi Malai.
The dish arrived along with a side of rice and a few extras, but the first thing that struck me was the incredible, rich aroma coming from the king prawn dish. It smelled amazing and I honestly couldn’t wait to dig in.
After plating everything up, I tried one of the king prawns on its own with a little of the accompanying sauce. Once again, the flavours exploded in my mouth. The king prawns were perfectly cooked, and the sauce can only be described in one word…wow!!. The flavours were beautifully balanced and incredibly rich.
Even though I was starting to feel a little full after the previous courses, I made sure to finish it because it was just so tasty.
As mentioned, there are several options available for the main course, but if you’re visiting, I would definitely recommend trying this one, it was absolutely delicious
