The Visit
The guys at Sam’s Italian Restaurant in Clydebank invited me back to check out their new menu.

Every time I’ve visited, I’ve always had a great experience, the food has consistently been really good, so I was genuinely looking forward to tonight’s visit and seeing what they’ve added to the new menu.

The Food
HAGGIS CROQUETTE £n/a tonight (normally £9.95)
Crumbed & crisp-fried arancino of pasta filled with Haggis, Mozzarella & Potatoes in a Smoked Nduja sauce & crispy pancetta

Since it was a brand-new menu, I decided to try a few things I wouldn’t normally order. For my starter and main, I wanted to mix it up a bit and this dish immediately jumped out at me.
On arrival, the presentation was really nice. It was a good-sized croquette, and I couldn’t wait to dig in.
From the first bite, it was incredibly tasty. I got the nduja sauce first, then the mozzarella, and finally the haggis. The haggis flavour was subtle, but overall everything worked together beautifully. It was a very tasty starter one I would easily order again.
Overall, this was a great choice. Something different, full of flavour, and the perfect portion size for a starter. The presentation was lovely, and the combination of textures and flavours made it stand out.

ARRABBIATA £n/a tonight (normally £13.95)
Spicy San Marzano tomato sugo with half rigatoni pasta

For my main course, I went for the Arrabbiata a pasta dish I rarely order, but I thought tonight was the perfect time to give it a try and see how they do it.
When it arrived, the presentation looked great and the aroma was amazing. I honestly couldn’t wait to get started.
I tried the pasta on its own first no sauce just to see how it was cooked, and it was perfect. I could taste a subtle hint of spice coming through. On my second bite, I made sure to get a bit of everything, and that’s when it all came together. The tomato, the spice, the heat such a tasty combination. The portion size was very generous too; I was getting pretty full towards the end, but I still enjoyed every single bite.
Overall, I’m really glad I stepped out of my comfort zone again tonight. This is definitely a dish I would order again it was packed with flavour and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

TIRAMISU £n/a tonight (normally £8.95)
Savoiardi sponge soaked in espresso coffee, mascarpone and zabaione cream

It would have been rude not to end the evening with dessert, so I went for a classic tiramisu. The presentation was very different from any Italian restaurant I’ve visited before, which made it feel like something special and it looked fantastic.
The tiramisu itself was perfect. The coffee flavour was well balanced, the amount of cream was just right, and every bite was delicious. This is honestly one of the best tiramisus I’ve had. It was moist, creamy, full of flavour, and had the ideal balance of everything.
