A new cookery school is quietly building a following in Perthshire, as Love to Cook Cook School attracts attention from visitors and food lovers alike.
Founded by Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef Sam Heeney-Governo, the recently opened cook school, pâtisserie and bakery in Crieff offers a programme of small, hands-on classes focused on simple, seasonal cooking. With an emphasis on confidence rather than complexity, the classes are designed to give home cooks practical skills they can carry into everyday life.
Early classes have already generated strong word-of-mouth, with guests highlighting the relaxed atmosphere and practical, approachable style of teaching.
“At its heart, it’s about making cooking feel accessible,” says Sam. “People often think they need complicated recipes or specialist equipment, but it’s really about understanding a few key techniques and ingredients.”
The class programme spans baking, pâtisserie and savoury cooking, including a new Back to Basics series that focuses on foundational skills such as cooking vegetables, preparing fish and building flavour from simple pantry staples.
Alongside its scheduled classes, Love to Cook offers bespoke experiences for private groups, as well as professional development and advanced pâtisserie training for chefs and experienced bakers.
Set in the market town of Crieff — increasingly recognised for its independent food businesses — the cook school also offers visitors a chance to engage with local produce in a more meaningful way. A selection of classes highlights seasonal Scottish and Perthshire ingredients, offering a hands-on introduction to the region’s food culture.
With its combination of technical skill, relaxed teaching style and strong sense of place, Love to Cook is fast becoming one to watch on Scotland’s growing food scene.
