Waters Edge at Isles of Glencoe dinner 2026 : Review

Visit & Vibes

After exploring Glencoe, I headed to a restaurant I’d booked specifically for the sunset views.

Even though the weather turned rainy and cloudy, making a sunset unlikely, I was still excited for dinner. I lucked out with a window seat, which offered a beautiful view despite the gloom.

The Food

Menu Choice★★★★★

Trio Fish & Chips £28.00
Coley, squid rings, king prawns, crushed peas, fries, tartare, lemon

Looking at the menu, several items stood out, but I eventually settled on the “Trio of Fish and Chips.” It sounded like a unique twist on a classic dish, and I was eager to see how they would execute it. However, when the plate arrived, the presentation was very underwhelming. It didn’t have the visual “wow” factor I expected, but I remained hopeful that the flavours would make up for the lack of plating style.

I began by trying the king prawns, which were the highlight of the trio. The batter was light and crispy, allowing the natural flavour of the prawns to come through. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. When I moved on to the squid rings, they were quite bland; the only thing I could really taste was the batter itself, with no distinct flavour from the seafood inside.

The main piece of battered fish was also a disappointment. It appeared to have been deep-fried for far too long, leaving it overdone and very hard in several areas. Because it was overcooked, the delicate flavour of the fish was completely lost, hidden behind a coating that was either too thick or simply spent too much time in the oil. While the chips were perfectly acceptable, they weren’t enough to save this dish.

Overall, the dish didn’t live up to its potential, and I left wishing I had ordered something else. It is a shame because the concept of a fish trio is excellent, but the execution was marred by heavy-handed frying and a lack of seasoning.

Thankfully, the beautiful view and the atmosphere of the restaurant provided some consolation for a poor main course.

Mango Brulee

To make up for the main course, I ordered the mango brûlée.

It was fantastic! The mango flavour was vibrant, and the crackle of the sugar top was perfect.

While the food was hit-or-miss, the dessert and the view made the trip worthwhile.

Final Thoughts…

Overall my visit here was not that great, but the view from the table and the drive back to the hotel made up for it.
