Visit & Vibes
I was recently invited to Casa Mia, located in Dunfermline, to come and check them out.
After setting a date, I had a quick look at their menu, and I have to say, several dishes immediately caught my eye.

On arrival, I was impressed by how beautifully designed the restaurant was. It has a calm, welcoming ambience that makes you feel instantly relaxed.

SAUTE’ DI COZZE £n/a tonight (normally £12)
Fresh Scottish mussels steamed in white wine, garlic and a touch of chilli

Tonight, I took my father with me for the visit, and he ordered the mussels for his starter. Obviously, I couldn’t just sit there and not try them!
The presentation was beautiful, and the aroma coming from the dish was incredible and it immediately caught my attention.
When I tried my first mussel, all I could say was wow! The flavour was fantastic! so good that I couldn’t resist pinching a few more. Each one tasted just as amazing as the first. Honestly, these were some of the nicest steamed mussels I’ve ever tried.
I even sampled the broth, which was packed with flavour and had a subtle touch of chilli. It wasn’t overpowering, just a gentle warmth in the background that added a lovely extra kick.
When I return (which I definitely plan to), I’ll be ordering these for myself next time. It was my father’s dish, so I let him enjoy the rest, but from what I tasted, it was absolutely delicious.

CALAMARI FRITTI (normally £12)
Squid rings, lightly dusted in flour and deep fried until crispy, served with lemon wedge and tartare sauce.

For my starter, I ordered the Calamari Fritti, a dish I always enjoy when visiting an Italian restaurant. I probably should change it up now and then, but I usually stick with either pâté, arancini, or calamari and tonight, I went for my usual favourite.
When it arrived, the presentation was lovely, and the portion size was great. You also get a generous serving of tartare sauce, which is always a bonus.
I first tried the calamari on its own, without lemon or sauce, and it was perfectly cooked. The batter was light but had a really nice crispness to it.
Then I tried it with the tartare sauce, and it was just as delicious, it worked beautifully both with and without the sauce.
Overall, this was a really enjoyable starter, and if you’re a calamari fan, you’ll definitely love this dish.

RISOTTO AL TARTUFO (normally £16)
Creamy wild mushrooms risotto with shaved parmesan and white truffle oil.

For the main course, my father ordered the Mushroom and Truffle Risotto, and just like with the starter, I had to give it a try. As soon as it arrived, it looked fantastic — a generous portion with a beautiful presentation and the aroma was absolutely amazing.
After tasting it, I can honestly say this was one of the nicest risottos I’ve ever had. It was perfectly cooked, the flavours were well balanced, and the truffle wasn’t overpowering, which can sometimes be the case elsewhere. It was rich, creamy, and incredibly moreish.
Since it was my father’s dish, I had to stop myself and let him enjoy the rest, but overall, it was a solid choice and definitely a must-try for any risotto fan visiting here.

PIZZA FRITTA (normally £15)
Deep fried folded pizza with ricotta cheese, tomato sauce, fior di latte mozzarella, calabrian spicy spianata meat (italian spicy sausage, chilli flakes and basil.

For my main course, there were at least ten dishes I would’ve loved to try, but I decided to pick one at random mainly because it’s something you don’t often see on many other Italian restaurant menus.
Excuse the photo it’s not the best, but it was the best I could do that night! Think of this dish as a calzone that’s deep-fried, though not quite as long or heavy as something like a pizza crunch you might get from a fish and chip shop. The batter was thin yet had a lovely crispness to it.
That’s where the similarities end, though, because the flavour was on another level. The combination of ricotta cheese and spicy Italian sausage was absolutely delicious, rich, savoury, and bursting with flavour.
I completely loved this dish, and it’s definitely one I’d order again. The flavours were incredibly moreish, and I’m so glad I chose it not only was it something new for me, but it was also amazing from start to finish.

Final Thoughts…
Firstly, a big thank you to the team at Casa Mia for the invite. I love discovering new places, and this one has definitely earned a spot on my list of top restaurants I honestly couldn’t fault a single thing tonight.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a lovely ambience that makes you feel instantly comfortable. I had a great chat with the staff, who were absolutely wonderful and friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what they do. The service was excellent, and the food was incredibly tasty.
If you’re looking for an Italian restaurant that focuses on authentic southern Italian–style cuisine, you definitely need to check this place out. As I mentioned above, some of the dishes were so good that after just one or two bites, I knew I’d be ordering them again on my next visit.
So, make sure to give Casa Mia a try and if you do, let me know in the comments what you thought and what dishes you went for!
