Visit & Vibes
Recently, I took a trip to a brand new Asian hypermarket in Glasgow called Food Asia. I’ve visited several Asian supermarkets before, and I always love the thrill of discovering unique products and “special finds” that I’ve never tried. It’s always worth checking out new spots to see what’s hitting the shelves!
From the moment I pulled into the car park, I could tell this place was massive. Stepping inside confirmed it, the scale of the building is incredible. While the hypermarket section is fully open, they are still putting the finishing touches on other areas of the building. There are definitely more exciting things coming soon, so it’s worth keeping an eye on their social media for the latest updates.

I started with a lap around the store just to take it all in. They have an impressively large fruit and veg section, a homeware department, a “Food 2 Go” counter, and extensive frozen and butcher sections.

On my second loop, I finally started picking up a few items. I had to be disciplined, though; my fridge and cupboards were already reaching capacity! I was being very selective, even though there were dozens of things I was dying to try. I’ll definitely be back once I’ve cleared some space!
The Food Part
After grabbing several random items, a little bit of this and a little bit of that, I headed over to the Food 2 Go area.
That’s where I ran into one of my good friend, Muhammad. He used to work at Charcoals Indian Restaurant, so it was a great surprise to see him there!
Muhammad gave me a quick tour of the kitchen area, which was spotless. He explained that all the pakoras, curries, and other dishes are prepared fresh every single day. He also mentioned that everything in the sweet section is made in-house.
I was then given several different dishes to try, ranging from curries and biryani to pakora and traditional sweets. At this point, my trolley was really starting to fill up!

Finally, I wandered over to the butcher section. They had a massive variety of meats on display, including plenty of pre-marinated options (shown at start of blog) that looked delicious. However, since my trolley was already bursting and I knew I had zero space left in my kitchen, I sadly had to pass on the meat this time. It’s definitely on my list for the next visit!

After getting home and unpacking, the hardest decision was figuring out where to start—everything looked so good! In the end, the Biryani won.

If you’re wandering through the aisles of Asia Food Hypermart in Glasgow and the aroma from the Food 2 Go section starts calling your name, listen to it. I recently picked up their Chicken Biryani, and it was an absolute standout.
From the very first forkful to the last grain of rice, this dish was delicious from start to finish. The spice blend was punchy without being overwhelming, perfectly coating the long-grain basmati rice.
I was seriously impressed by how tender the meat was. It practically fell apart, soaking up all those deep, aromatic flavours. Just a small pro-tip for your visit, do watch out for some bones. It’s authentic, bone-in style, which definitely helps the flavour, but keep an eye out as you dive in.
It tastes amazing and offers that genuine, home-cooked feel that’s hard to find in a quick takeaway format. Whether you’re fueling up for a big grocery shop or just passing through, this Biryani is a must-grab.

I went back to the Food to Go counter at Asia Hypermarket to try their pakora, and honestly, they are setting the bar high for Glasgow takeaways.
Chicken Pakora
The chicken was exceptionally tender, which is often hard to find with pakora. It had a really nice, deep flavor that wasn’t overpowered by the batter. It’s easily one of the nicest chicken pakoras I’ve had from a takeaway in a long time.

Vegetable Pakora
If you like a bit of heat, this is for you. It had a slight kick in the spice level that really made the flavours pop. Great crunch on the outside while staying soft and flavourful on the inside. Whether you’re a meat lover or prefer the veggie option, these are a must-grab next time you’re passing through. Highly recommended!

I picked up quite a few other items, some of which are shown below. If I reviewed every single one here, you’d be reading this post for hours! Keep an eye on my Instagram, as I’ll be posting more individual reviews over there.

Final Thoughts…
Overall, I had a great time today browsing the aisles and looking at so many different items; most of them were completely new to me. I look forward to trying them out once I get through today’s haul!
