As you may have been following, my journey over the past year with my house renovation has been like a roller coaster, full of ups and downs. It has been consistently stressful, but occasionally I see signs of progress. Finally, I’m going to my last post regarding the main renovations.
Once I move in, there are still a few things left to do, but the house is now ready for me to move in, and I’m excited to start living here.
Over the past few months, I’ve tried to find someone to work on the bathroom.
However, I received exorbitant quotes or encountered people who simply didn’t show up. My father asked a neighbor, who is very handy, if he would do it, and he agreed. However, he was going on holiday, so he requested that I arrange for the plumbing to be sorted out so he could finish the job upon his return, which was very kind of him.
Within six weeks, I communicated with seven plumbers through text, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc. They were all very nice and pleasant, but each one let me down. Then I found one who was very good and said he would come out on a Sunday to check it out and give me a quote. He was willing to start two days later, which was much better than the previous ones. I was ready to hire him regardless of the price, but he gave me a very reasonable quote, so I agreed.
I needed the following done :
- move the radiator along the wall
- new shower tray drainage
- fit rainfall shower
- boxed wall with a shelf
- outdoor tap (front of house)
The guy came out and we talked about a few things. As always, there were some small issues that needed to be addressed.
I wanted a dark-coloured shower tray. However, he mentioned that in many houses with dark trays, constant use and exposure to shampoo and other products require cleaning a few times a day to prevent them from turning white. Consequently, I chose a white shower tray instead. Now, I need to think of other ways to create the look I originally wanted.
He also replaced a few old pipes and provided extremely helpful advice. Finally, the first part of my bathroom renovation was completed.
After three days of hard work and valuable advice from the plumber, he completed all the plumbing. I was relieved to see another part of the house getting closer to completion.
Next, I needed to remove the old ceiling, install a new one, hire a plasterer, fix the bathroom floor due to inadequate support beams in some areas, and then bring in the tiler. With each step, I was getting closer to the final completion date.
With the bathroom, part finished and while I was working on other tasks there, I decided to fully complete the bedroom by having the carpet installed. Next, I needed to decide where to go. I chose to check out a new shop that had recently opened on Cambuslang Main Street.
