Visit & Vibes

Recently, over the weekend, my friend and I decided to visit Stewart Brewing in Lonehead again.

We had been there a while ago, but only for a quick snack before heading off to a restaurant. This time, however, we decided to stay longer, check the place out properly, grab some pizzas, and enjoy some beers—well, for him at least, since I was the designated driver.

I planned to purchase some beers to take home instead and see what the experience was like.

There’s the main building, where they work their magic and offer tours.

There’s also a shop and a restaurant/bar area. They have a lovely outdoor seating area, but today we chose to sit inside and check it out.

Classic Hand Stretched Bread £5.50
Garlic Butter, Fresh Rosemary + Sea Salt

To start, while we waited for our pizzas, we ordered a classic hand-stretched bread topped with garlic, rosemary, and sea salt. When it arrived, it looked great, and the aroma was incredible.

The bread was light and fluffy, packed with flavor, and incredibly moreish. Honestly, if I hadn’t ordered the pizza, I might have ordered several more of these—they were that good. If you visit, I highly recommend trying the classic one. It’s super tasty and absolutely delicious.

We both thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was the perfect size for a little nibble before the main pizzas arrived.

Locally Caught Haggis Pizza £14.00
Chunky MacSweens Haggis, Mature Cheddar Cheese, Crispy Rosemary Potato, Sweet Chili Sauce.

My friend and I each picked a pizza we wanted to try, ordered them, and then split them in half to share. One of these pizzas was from the main menu, and from the description, it sounded really good. When it arrived, it looked just as appetizing.

As we dug in, we noticed that the pizza had a lot of great flavours that worked well together, and the aroma was enticing.

However, we both felt that there wasn’t enough haggis on it. When you got a bite with haggis mixed with the other toppings, the flavours really came together perfectly—it was delicious. Without the haggis, though, it was just an okay slice of pizza.

We agreed that if they had spread the haggis more evenly across the pizza, it would have been exceptionally tasty. As it was, it was still a very nice pizza, but it could have been even better.

Coney Island Hot Dog Pizza
Sausage, mustard and crispy onions

Our second choice was actually a recommendation from one of the staff members. She told us about this pizza, and it sounded really good, so we thought, ‘Why not give it a try?’ It sounded interesting and had the potential to be delicious.

When it arrived, it looked intriguing and had a unique aroma. It smelled a lot like a hot dog, which was fitting since that was the whole idea. But now it was time to dig in and see if the recommendation was worth it.

Taking a slice, I found it to be really tasty. This was a very good pizza, and the combination of flavours, which I wouldn’t have expected to work, actually came together nicely.

It did have that hot dog-like taste when you bit into it. Like the first pizza, the base was lovely and thin, perfectly cooked. While it wasn’t a ‘wow’ pizza, it was still very, very good, and I would consider ordering it again on a return visit.

Final Thoughts…

Overall, it was nice to be back and actually sit in to explore the place. The interior was really lovely, and spotlessly clean, and the staff were very pleasant.

Regarding today’s pizza choices: the first one, the haggis pizza, as I mentioned earlier, would have been amazing if there had been more haggis distributed evenly across the pizza. However, it was still a very tasty option and worth trying.

The hot dog pizza was also quite interesting—definitely one to check out. Both were good, and I’m looking forward to trying more of their pizzas on my next visit to see how they compare to the two I had today.

Overall, it was a really good visit. After our meal, we stopped by the shop and made a few purchases.
