Sannio Italian Restaurant & Bar (Glasgow) 2025 : Review

Visit & Vibes

I was recently invited back to Sannio Italian Restaurant in Glasgow, as they’ve launched their new Winter menu, featuring some interesting dishes, including pasta served in the now-viral pizza bowl, which I was really looking forward to seeing how they do it here.

The interior is just as lovely as the last time I visited, and the staff are all incredibly nice, friendly, and helpful.

As I was driving, I decided to start the evening with a mocktail. I asked the waitress for her recommendation and went with her choice.

The mocktail that was recommended was the Gummy Bear, and it was sweet and hit the spot perfectly, starting my night off on a great note.

The Food

ARANCINI ROSA & NAPOLI
Pink arborio rice, mozzarella & black pudding balls

Nearly every time I visit here, I always order the Arancini; it’s just that good. Tonight, I couldn’t break the habit, so I had to order it again.

On arrival, the presentation was excellent, and the aroma was incredible. I couldn’t wait to dig in.

From the very first bite, the flavours exploded in my mouth. It was incredibly tasty, with everything perfectly balanced, beautifully cooked, and with a lovely texture. As always, it did not disappoint.

This was a fantastic choice to start with, and on my next visit, I’ll definitely be ordering the Arancini again. It’s simply that good, super tasty and highly recommended.

SPAGHETTI ALLA CARBONARA IN PIZZA BOWL
Smoked pancetta, white wine, cream

One of the dishes the team really wanted me to try tonight was the pasta in a pizza bowl, something that’s currently going viral. I was really looking forward to checking it out and seeing exactly why it has become so popular.

The pasta I chose was spaghetti carbonara, as it’s always been a favourite of mine. When it arrived, I was impressed by the generous portion size, and the pizza bowl itself really made the dish stand out visually. It was easy to see why this dish has gone viral.

I tore off a piece of the pizza bowl first and gave it a taste, it was so good, then I went in for the spaghetti.

The spaghetti was cooked perfectly and had a really rich flavour. Normally, I’m quite traditional and not always a fan of spaghetti with this type of sauce, but it worked incredibly well here. Being able to tear off pieces of the pizza bowl, dip them into the sauce, and combine everything just made it work. Everything about this dish was extremely tasty and surprisingly filling.

There was a table next to me who weren’t sure what to order, and when they spotted this dish, we got chatting. The lady mentioned she had seen it on TikTok and asked how it tasted. Before long, it arrived at their table too. She started taking photos, and after a few bites, she told me it was very tasty.

Overall, this is a really, really good dish. It feels like it shouldn’t work, but it absolutely does. If you’re a fan of pasta and also love pizza bases, this is the perfect combination. You get to tear, dip, and enjoy the pasta all in one dish. It’s so good and highly recommended.

DUBAI CHOCOLATE TIRAMISÙ
Chocolate, pistachio cream, espresso, lady fingers, kadayif pasticcini, crushed pistachio, fresh strawberry

Another new menu item I tried was the Dubai Chocolate Tiramisu, and I had to order it to see what it was like. On arrival, just like everything else at this restaurant, the presentation was absolutely beautiful. I almost felt bad digging into it because it looked so good.

From the very first spoonful, I was hooked. It was incredibly moreish, with amazing flavours and textures, everything about this dessert was 100% spot on. Unfortunately, I was already very full after my main course, otherwise I would have happily ordered a second one.

This is another dish I highly, highly recommend trying. It’s incredibly tasty and the perfect way to finish the evening.

Final Thoughts…

Firstly, a big thank you to the team for inviting me along tonight. It was lovely to be back, and as I’ve said before, it’s always a great experience when I visit. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is fantastic, the staff are always friendly and helpful, and the food is consistently amazing.

This restaurant is firmly on my top restaurant list, and it’s staying there. It’s a fantastic place that you really need to visit.

If you’re not sure where it’s located, it’s right near the King’s Theatre. So, if you’re heading to see a show, I highly recommend booking a table here first. Enjoy a fantastic meal, then head off to your show, the perfect evening.
