Visit & Vibes
I missed the last one, so I definitely couldn’t miss this one—especially since it featured a brand I tried ages ago and really enjoyed.
Tonight’s monthly Glasgow Rum Club focused on two rum brands: Black Tot and Hampden Estate. I was particularly excited about Black Tot, as it’s the one I remembered liking the last time I tried it.

As always, the evening kicked off with a welcome cocktail made with one of the rums from tonight’s lineup. It went down a treat—though to be fair, these welcome cocktails are always excellent.
The brand ambassador was excellent tonight—engaging, funny, and full of great information about each rum. It was perfect for anyone new to rum or looking for a little refresher, and even those with plenty of knowledge managed to learn something new.

Depending on the ambassador’s talk, we sometimes get to sample the rums partway through or once the presentation has finished—and this is always the part we all look forward to.
The evening began with the Black Tot rums, and I quickly found two personal favourites: the Black Tot Finest Caribbean Blended Rum (46.2%) and the Black Tot Historic Solera Rum (also 46.2%). The Finest Caribbean had smooth notes of tropical fruit, caramel, and a gentle spice that made it incredibly easy to sip. The Historic Solera, on the other hand, carried deeper flavours of rich molasses, dried fruit, and hints of coffee, giving it a more deeper and luxurious character. Both really hit the spot, and I enjoyed them so much that I’ve already added them to my Amazon wish list for a future purchase.

he rums from Hampden were also very enjoyable, but the two from Black Tot were the clear winners for my palate.
Once the tastings were finished, the team at tonight’s Rum Club venue, Maison Glaschu, served up a few nibbles to round off the evening. I have to admit, I’ve not visited here before, but based on tonight’s little taster, it’s definitely been added to my ever-growing list of places to visit.
Overall, it was another fantastic monthly Rum Club. As always, if you’d like to come along, check the link at the top to see when the next one is happening and which rum will be featured.
