Chaakoo Bombay Cafe (Glasgow) 2025 : Review

Visit & Vibes

Today, I was meeting several friends for lunch before heading to see a movie, and this place was chosen as our lunch spot.

I haven’t been here in a long time. I used to be a regular when it first opened, and if you search, you’ll find many of my blog reviews on it. So, I was really looking forward to returning and trying their food again.

The Food

Menu Choice★★★★★

SHAKAHARI £6.95
Crispy fried vegetable pakora.

For one of my dishes, I opted for the vegetable pakora. When it arrived, it looked great, and the portion size was perfect.

Taking a bite of the pakora — it was absolutely delicious. Super tasty, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavour. It didn’t even need the accompanying sauce, as the pakora itself was that good. That said, dipping it in the sauce did add an extra layer of flavour, although I felt it slightly overpowered the fresh, homemade taste of the pakora.

Overall, I really enjoyed this from start to finish. It was so good — one of the nicest pakoras I’ve had in a while. A fantastic way to kick off the meal!

Cauliflower £6.95
Marinated in yoghurt & classic tandoor spices, slowly grilled over coals.

For my second dish, I wanted to try something completely different, so I went for the grilled cauliflower.

When it arrived, the presentation was okay — though to be fair, there’s only so much you can do visually with cauliflower. Still, I was looking forward to trying it.

You could definitely taste the char from the grill, and the cauliflower was cooked well. However, I felt it lacked the tandoori spices that were mentioned in the description. That said, it was pleasant enough, and I’m glad I gave it a try.

Personally, I wouldn’t order it again, as it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. But if you’re a fan of cauliflower, give it a go and see what you think.

Kerela Monkfish £12.95
From the land of spices; monkfish curry with coconut, ginger, garlic & mustard seeds.

For my final dish, I chose the Kerala monkfish. It sounded amazing, and I was really looking forward to it.

When it arrived, the presentation was appealing, and the aroma was absolutely fantastic.

Taking a bite of the monkfish — it was perfectly cooked, beautifully tender, and the sauce really elevated the flavour of the fish. It was genuinely incredible, and I could have easily eaten more — that’s how good it was.

Overall, this was the standout dish of my visit. On my next return, I’ll definitely be ordering it again, along with something else I haven’t had in a while.

Mango Lassi

As always, I like to finish an Indian meal with a mango lassi, and I remembered this place used to do really good ones — so I had to order it again.

When it arrived, the presentation looked lovely, and I couldn’t wait to take a sip.

Sadly, the presentation was the only nice part. The flavour was more like watered-down plain yoghurt with barely any mango taste. I was very disappointed — so much so that I only took two sips before leaving the rest.

Overall, I was really let down. They used to serve thick, creamy lassis with a great mango flavour, but this one was very watery. A few other people who ordered it said the exact same thing, so it clearly wasn’t just me.

Final Thoughts…

Overall, my return here was a bit of a mixed bag. Two of the dishes were absolutely amazing, one was just okay, and the drink was a major letdown.

It was still nice to be back — the interior remains beautifully designed, the staff were friendly, and the service was good. But overall, it was a mixed experience for me, and a few of my friends who were there felt the same.
