Lychee Oriental Restaurant (Southside, Glasgow) 2025 : Review

Visit & Vibes

I was recently invited to the opening of Lychee Oriental’s new restaurant in the Southside. I’ve visited their Glasgow city centre location many times and always loved it — it’s my number one Chinese restaurant to visit or recommend whenever I’m asked.

I couldn’t wait to check out the new Southside branch and try the food. If it’s anything like the original location, I knew it was going to be an absolutely amazing experience.

The interior here is stunning.

As you enter, you’re welcomed by a cozy, inviting vibe, with seating opposite the bar area and by the window. Upstairs, there’s another lovely, intimate setting — that’s where I was seated tonight. I instantly felt relaxed and couldn’t wait to sample the food.

The Food

Menu Choice★★★★★

Crispy Aromatic Duck Rolls

We were given a menu tonight to choose from, featuring several starters and several mains. I opted for the duck spring rolls, as I hadn’t had them in a long time.

When they arrived, the presentation was lovely, and the portion size was perfect for a starter. I tried the duck roll on its own first, and the flavour was amazing — it was perfectly cooked with a lovely crispness. I then dipped it into the sauce that accompanied the dish, and wow, it took the flavour to another level. The sauce was addictive and complemented the duck beautifully.

This was a perfect starter that I honestly couldn’t fault — apart from the fact that I could have easily eaten many, many more! Highly recommended if you’re a duck lover.

Sesame Prawn Toast

Another dish I got to sample tonight was the prawn toast — another classic I hadn’t had in a long time. Prawn toast is always a bit hit or miss depending on where you go, as every restaurant does it slightly differently.

When it arrived, the presentation was once again excellent, and I couldn’t wait to dig in.

I took a bite, and it was perfection. The toast was lovely and crisp, and the flavour of the prawns and sesame seeds complemented each other beautifully. Everything about this dish was spot on, and once again, the portion size was absolutely perfect for a starter.

This is exactly how prawn toast should be done — highly recommended, and I could have easily eaten more!

Shredded Honey Chilli Chicken

For my main dish, this was a difficult choice as there were several options on tonight’s menu that sounded amazing. I eventually opted for the shredded honey chilli chicken with egg fried rice.

When it arrived, the presentation was good, and the portion size was perfect for a main dish.

I started with the egg fried rice, which was really tasty. Then I moved on to the shredded chicken — and from the first bite, I could tell it was perfectly cooked. The flavour was absolutely amazing; you could taste the sweetness of the honey, followed by a nice kick of chilli at the end.

The flavours in this dish were spot on — absolutely perfect and extremely tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish, and just like the starters, I could easily have had another portion — that’s how good it was!

Highly recommended — this is definitely a dish you have to try if you visit!

Final Thoughts…

Overall, it was a fantastic visit to Lychee in the Southside. It was exactly as I expected — a lovely interior, a fantastic atmosphere, excellent service, and amazing food. Everything from the starters to the main was packed with flavour and beautifully presented.

I honestly can’t fault anything tonight, just as I can never fault their Glasgow city centre location. I’m adding this new branch straight to my highly recommended list and my top restaurants to visit.

If you’re in the area, you absolutely have to check this place out — you won’t be disappointed. You’ll have an amazing time and enjoy food that’s packed with incredible flavours!
