Visit & Vibes
The Glasgow Rum Club has finally returned, and this year, it’s in a new location. It’s now hosted at Tropical Café, a restaurant located in Glasgow’s Merchant City.

I’ve been attending the Rum Club for a long time, and I’ve loved every event. It’s always a great time, filled with laughter. You get to try new rums and learn about each brand, and overall, it’s just a really fun event, especially if you’re a rum enthusiast.
Since this was the launch event, there was also food specially themed to pair with the style of rum. Tropical Café has been on my list of places to try for a while now. I’ve just been busy with life and my house renovation, so I was really looking forward to sampling whatever they had prepared for tonight’s event. They’re still on my list for a full visit, so keep an eye out for future posts and blog updates.

The Event
When I write about events like the Rum Club, I don’t go into too much detail because it’s one of those experiences you really need to attend to fully appreciate. If you’re interested, I highly recommend joining in—it’s a lot of fun! You’ll learn something new, be around a great crowd, and share a few laughs.
This is the kind of event you have to experience in person, so I’ll just give a brief overview of what it was like. Hopefully, it piques your interest enough to consider joining the next one, or even all the future events!

The event took place upstairs, and the crowd was really diverse, so I knew right away we were in for a great evening.
Once we sat down, we each had three glasses of rum in front of us. I could tell we were in for a treat, as the rum for tonight was one I’d never tried before, and I don’t think many people in the room had either.
The rum we were tasting was by a brand called Outlaw Rum. We were given some background on them, and it was a fascinating story about two friends who wanted to create something special. They succeeded in crafting a lovely and unique rum. You can learn more about their story by following this link.
The first rum we tried was a premium Caribbean rum aged in a Scottish whisky cask, followed by a double cask rum, and the third was aged in a bourbon cask.
It was interesting to see how everyone’s preferences varied, but for most of us, the bourbon cask rum came out as the favorite, at least for now.

Next, we were served some food—just a sampler of Jamaican, Caribbean, and Barbadian-style dishes. The food paired perfectly with the rum and had a delicious level of spice. It wasn’t overpowering but added amazing flavor and balance. Everyone enjoyed the food so much that it disappeared quickly! This was when I knew I had to come back to Tropical Café soon to try more of their dishes.

We were then told there would be two more rums to try, which is always a good thing—the more rum, the better!
The fourth rum was aged in a single malt Islay whisky cask. This one had a strong peaty flavor, but it grew on me the more I drank it, and it eventually became my favorite so far.
The fifth and final rum was aged in a sherry butt, and this one was incredible. It quickly became the crowd favorite, and for good reason. I’d say the last two rums were my personal favorites of the night.

Final Thoughts…
Overall, this was a fantastic launch event. There were plenty of laughs, great food, amazing drinks, and a wonderful brand. We learned a bit about rum and Outlaw Rum’s story. Everything combined made this one of the best Rum Club events I’ve attended—it was simply a fantastic evening.
