Oriental Leaf Chinese Tea 2025 : Review

About Oriental Leaf

We only sell tea that we would drink ourselves.

We directly source small batches of high-quality, handcrafted teas from tea farmers. Additionally, we procure premium-quality teas directly from the source, ensuring both quality and reasonable pricing. Most importantly, all the teas we sell are varieties that we have personally selected through multiple purchases and tastings over the past five years.

The Products

I’ll start this blog by saying I’m not a huge tea drinker, but I’m always up for trying new things. A while ago, I was gifted some tea from a company, and it changed my perspective. There were a few teas I really enjoyed and would happily drink again.

Recently, the team at Oriental Leaf kindly gifted me some Chinese tea, and I decided to give it a try. As you can see from the photos below, the packaging is absolutely stunning—some of the nicest I’ve ever seen for tea. The level of detail is incredible, and I couldn’t wait to explore it.

In fact, I almost didn’t want to open the tea because the packaging was so beautiful, but of course, I had to sample it. Keep reading to find out what I thought!

The Tea

The team provided me with information on each of the teas, and I followed their instructions as best I could with what I had in my kitchen. The end result was very good.

Sticky Rice Scent Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cake(Nuo Mi Xiang)
This is a ripe Pu-erh tea cake from Yunnan, China. It’s made into two pieces, 100 grams each, and sealed in a paper box.

The tea smells like glutinous rice, also known as sticky rice aroma.

One of the teas I received was the Sticky Rice Scent Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cake (Nuo Mi Xiang). Even just opening the box, I was greeted by an incredible aroma—a light, sweet rice fragrance that immediately piqued my interest, and I couldn’t wait to give it a try.

As I brewed the tea and poured it into the cup, that same irresistible aroma filled the air. It was so inviting that I was excited for my first sip.

At first, the tea tasted like a regular brew, but after a few seconds, the aftertaste blossomed into exactly what it had promised—a delightful sticky rice flavour that matched the wonderful scent. It was such a pleasant surprise, and out of all the teas I was gifted, this one quickly became my favourite.

I found myself going back for more and more, and for me, this tea was the clear winner. However, all the teas were excellent in their own right. If you’re interested in trying this or any of the others, I highly recommend checking out Oriental Leaf.

On Taoism – Jingyang Golden Flower Fu Brick Tea (Yellow Wrapped)
Tea in Jingyang undergoes both post-fermentation and flowering processes. The buds in the red packaging are more delicate and tender, while those in the black packaging are more robust and ideal for longer brewing.

These premium compressed tea cakes, produced in 2020, are notable for their long-term storage potential. Over time, they develop a smoother, more mellow flavour.

I started with this tea because I thought the yellow wrapping might indicate a lighter flavour.

After following the simple preparation instructions using what I had in my kitchen, I sat down to enjoy the tea while watching an evening movie.

At first, the aroma seemed like that of a typical tea, but once I took my first sip, things changed. I noticed lovely woody and earthy notes that continued with every sip.

Surprisingly, I found this tea to be something I could enjoy again and again, even though I’m not a big tea drinker. In fact, I made myself two cups tonight and enjoyed the second just as much as the first.

If you’re a tea lover like me and are always on the lookout for something unique, you’ve got to try the Taoism Jingyang Golden Flower Fu Brick Tea (Yellow Wrapped).

On Taoism – Jingyang Golden Flower Fu Brick Tea (Black Wrapped)
Tea in Jingyang undergoes both post-fermentation and flowering processes. The buds in the red packaging are more delicate and tender, while those in the black packaging are more robust and ideal for longer brewing.

These premium compressed tea cakes, produced in 2020, are notable for their long-term storage potential. Over time, they develop a smoother, more mellow flavour.

This was the second tea I tried because I wanted to compare it to the yellow-wrapped tea.

After unwrapping it and preparing it with what I had in my kitchen, I poured a cup and sat down to sample it.

The aroma was slightly stronger than what I was used to, though I’m not sure if that was because I let it steep a bit longer.

When I took my first sip, I have to be honest—I couldn’t notice much difference between this and the yellow-wrapped tea, except that it was slightly stronger in flavour. I still got some woody notes, and just like with the yellow-wrapped tea, I enjoyed this one as well.

If you’re looking to try a new tea and prefer a slightly stronger flavor, this one is definitely for you.

Golden Flower White Tea Single Serve Packs
Discover our groundbreaking Fu tea, a masterful blend of time-honoured tradition and cutting-edge innovation. This exceptional tea redefines the Fu brick category by using premium Fuding Shoumei white tea from the Fujian province as its base, creating a truly unique sensory experience.

This was the last tea I tried because I wanted to experience the other ones first before sampling the single-serve version.

I really liked this one because there was no need to break off any tea. You just take it out of the packet and start preparing it. That said, I did enjoy the hands-on aspect of the other teas, but I love the convenience of this option. If you have the right equipment, you can easily take it to work and make tea without much effort.

The tea itself was really nice. I got the same flavours as with the others, but I felt like I enjoyed this one even more. I think I was starting to get used to these types of teas and was beginning to appreciate the flavours, the process, and everything that goes along with it.

I’ve used the single-serve a few times now, sitting down with a movie and sipping my tea. I could easily see myself drinking more of this kind. If you’re into trying new types of tea but prefer less preparation, I highly recommend the single-serve version. You’ll really enjoy it.

Final Thoughts…

Firstly, thank you to the team for sending me these teas. I always enjoy trying new things, especially when it’s something I don’t usually go for.

I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed every single tea I tried. As you’ve read, I even had a few cups of each, which is something I never thought I would do as I’m not much of a tea drinker. To be honest, I can’t even remember the last time I had tea. I’m more of an orange juice in the morning and water in the evening kind of person, so this really opened my eyes. I’m looking forward to finishing all of these teas.

If you enjoy trying different or new teas, I highly recommend giving this a go. Check out their website, and you might even want to order the single-serve version first to see if it’s a flavour of tea you’d enjoy.
