Visit & Vibes

I was recently invited to visit Karma at Lake of Menteith. I decided to go for dinner, although they also offer a lunch menu. Unfortunately, the weather on the day I visited wasn’t great, but I had been told the place is absolutely stunning, especially with its view of the lake.

As you can see from the photo below, this is what they sent me—what I would have seen if it hadn’t been dark and rainy. I definitely plan to return to experience the view on a nice, sunny day.

Inside, the atmosphere is very cosy. We were shown to our table, which we chose by the window. We did get a brief five-minute glimpse of the lake in the dark, and it looked beautiful from what I could see. As I mentioned, I’m determined to come back during the day when the weather is better to fully enjoy the view.

They have fantastic menus here, and I’m not just saying that because it was an invite. There’s a wide variety of options, ranging from Indian to Scottish cuisine, so you’re bound to find something you’ll want to try. I was really excited to order and see what they had to offer.

For my main, I had to try the Stornoway scallops. I’m a big fan of scallops, so I was eager to see how they prepare them here.

When the dish arrived, the presentation was stunning—visually appealing and aromatic, making my mouth water instantly.

I tasted a scallop on its own first, before trying it with the sauce and accompaniments. It was perfectly cooked and tasted incredible. When I combined it with everything else on the plate, the flavors were amazing. Honestly, I could have eaten this dish again and again—it was that good. If you’re a fan of scallops, I’d highly recommend ordering this dish when you visit.

LAKE OF MENTEITH RAINBOW TROUT £23.75 (£n/a tonight)

For my main, I decided to stick with the seafood theme and ordered the Lake of Menteith Rainbow Trout.

When the dish arrived, it looked great and had a wonderful aroma. I started with the vegetables to see how they were, and they were perfectly cooked with lovely flavors. Next, I tried the creamy mashed potatoes, which were delicious—some of the best I’ve had. Then, I moved on to the trout.

The trout was perfectly cooked—flaky and full of flavor. When I combined everything together, it made for a truly delightful dish. I’m so glad I chose it.

If you visit and love fish, this is definitely a dish you need to try.

GOOEY RED VELVET COOKIE DOUGH £9.50 (£n/a tonight)

I couldn’t stop there—I had to check out the dessert menu, and as a massive fan of cookie dough, one item instantly caught my eye.

When it arrived, just like everything else tonight, the presentation was flawless. I couldn’t wait to dig in and see how it tasted.

I’d never had Red Velvet cookie dough before, and it was amazing. It was warm and gooey with little crispy bits, and the vanilla ice cream was super fresh and delicious. Together, they made for the perfect ending to a fantastic evening.

If you have a sweet tooth like me, you definitely need to try this. I’ll be ordering it again when I return!

Final Thoughts…

First and foremost, a massive thanks to the team here for the invite. Everything tonight was absolutely fantastic, and my compliments to the chef. Every dish was not only bursting with flavor but beautifully presented as well.

There’s nothing I can fault tonight—except perhaps the unpredictable Scottish weather! This place is definitely going on my list of top restaurants, and as I mentioned, I fully intend to return on a sunny day to explore more of their menu.
