Oodles (Glasgow) 2024 : Review

Visit & Vibes

I was recently invited to the newly opened Oodles, located in the Glasgow city centre, for their pre-launch event.

To be honest, I had never heard of them before, but I am always eager to discover new places and try new things. So, I accepted the invitation and set the date.

Upon entering, the place has a nice modern vibe.

You can either sit in, with available booths and tables or opt for takeout. It reminded me of Subway. You go up, order what you fancy from the individual items, wait for your number to be called, and then either sit down or take your food to go.

The Food

Tonight, they were offering all the bloggers a regular meal.

You select your choices from the menu, which includes picking two bases—such as rice, noodles, chips, etc. Then you choose one saucy dish and one dry dish, which are then placed into a box for your enjoyment.

I decided to opt for egg fried rice, udon noodles, sweet and sour chicken, and salt and pepper chicken. This way, I could sample both their rice and noodles to gauge their quality, as well as try a sweet and sour dish and my favorite, salt and pepper chicken.

Regular Box: Egg Fried Rice + Udon Noodles + Sweet & Sour Chicken + Salt and Pepper Chicken

My first bite was of the salt and pepper chicken. The chicken was extremely tender and had a good taste. It’s something I would have again.

I then tried the sweet-and-sour chicken and was left a little disappointed. It was a bit bland; I was looking for that sweet and sour punchiness that you normally get. However, the chicken was again extremely tender. I think the sweet and sour sauce just needs to be a bit stronger to enhance the flavor, and then it could be very good.

I then tried the udon noodle on its own, and while it was extremely tasty—something I could easily have again and again—I’m not normally a big noodle person. I’m more of a rice person, but this has converted me. It was nice, and I could easily see myself ordering it again.

Finally, I tried the fried rice, which was perfectly cooked and tasted as expected. Overall, mixing each combination with either the rice or the noodles, or just having them on their own, everything was very good and very tasty. As I said, I was a little disappointed with the sweet and sour chicken, but the salt and pepper chicken was very, very tasty.
