La Bonne Auberge (Glasgow) 2023 : Review

Visit & Vibes

I have been here a few times for food or afternoon tea, and it’s always been a really nice visit and meal.

Tonight I was going to the Theatre Royal to see Phil Rosenthal (Somebody Feed Phil) and thought I would book here for dinner before the show.

The Food

On sitting down I noticed the menu was a set menu, which is fine for me I eat most things so I knew I would find something.

2 courses for £24
3 Courses for £29

Rich Chicken Liver Parfait
Pear chutney & Sliced sourdough

You can’t ever go wrong with parfait…well you can in some way…but I will get to that.

On arrival, this looked very nice, and instantly I thought there isn’t enough sourdough for the amount of parfait…this is where you can go wrong!

The waiter tonight noticed I needed more sourdough and brought me another slice which was really good, as most places don’t ever offer to give you more so this was very good service.

The parfait was very nice and very tasty with the sourdough.

Seabass Fillet
Chorizo, butter bean, root vegetables & chicken veloute

I liked the sound of this dish, seabass with chorizo and the chicken veloute…that sounded very tasty.

On arrival, this looked nice, and I couldn’t wait to dig right in.

I started trying the seabass and it was very nicely cooked and just melted in my mouth.

I then tried it with a little of everything and I didn’t get any more flavour…

Overall the fish was very nice, but flavour wise this was a very weak dish…sorry guys!

Oat Milk Pana Cotta
Honeycomb & Fermented berries

After my meal, I felt like ordering a dessert so I thought let’s try this and see how it is.

On arrival the presentation was nice, and I was looking forward to it.

I tried a taste of the pana cotta and it was interesting, the texture was not as firm as a normal pana cotta but I am guessing this is down to the oat milk but it was ok flavour-wise.

With the honeycomb and berries, this was a nice light dessert but would not be great on flavour if it didn’t have the berries….sorry guys.

Final Thoughts…

Tonight’s visit was nice but a mixed bag when it came to my dishes, my main needed a bit more flavour and the dessert was nice but again needed a wee something added to boost its flavour.

As always the staff and service was very good, and my waiter was really friendly and helpful.

Normally I have had great meals here but tonight…not so much…maybe it was just a bad menu or my selection?
