Easy Classic Poached Pear Recipe

  • Prep time: 10 mins
  • Cook time: 30-60 mins
  • Serves: 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 Pears (Look for ones that are firm to the touch rather than mushy)
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • A few strips of lemon peel

Method

  1. Prep the Pears: Gently peel your pears, but leave the stems on, it gives them that “fancy bistro” look! Pro tip: slice a tiny sliver off the bottom so they can stand upright on the plate later.
  2. Simmer the Syrup: In a medium pot, stir together your water, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon peel. Bring it to a boil, then turn the heat down to a low simmer.
  3. The Poach: Carefully submerge the pears in the liquid.
  • 4. Baste for Juiciness: While they simmer for 30–60 minutes, don’t just walk away! Keep pouring that beautiful syrup over the pears with a spoon. Basting them while they’re in the pot ensures they soak up all those aromatics and become even more tender and juicy.

    The Grand Finale

Once a knife slides into the center easily, remove the pears and set them aside. Now, turn up the heat to reduce that leftover liquid into a thick, glossy syrup.

You will definitely need a little patience while you wait for that sauce to reduce. It takes a while to get it perfectly syrupy, but the wait is so worth it.

Drizzle that liquid gold over your pears and serve warm. Enjoy!
