I was lucky enough to be invited back to Edinburgh to try Konkana.

Konkana is a unique Indian seafood restaurant in Edinburgh and only a short walk from Princess Street…..around 20mins.

I like Indian food and I like seafood so this sounded like a perfect combo for me, so I headed for the restaurant.

From their website…

For true foodies, Konkana will be more than just a seafood restaurant, it is an experience…a wholesome, satisfying and elevating experience in Edinburgh! Konkana is named after the Konkan region of India that is most popular for its seafood and Fish specialities. Konkana is our attempt to bring to you the best seafood in Edinburgh, with fresh locally sourced fish and meat with a variety of flavours from the Indian coastline.

First Impressions :

On arrival I was welcomed and shown to my table, this is when I had a nosy around and took a few snaps.

This is a very nice looking restaurant inside, very clean modern and classy. There was also background music, which was at a nice low level and I could easily hear the person sitting opposite me without any shouting.

Staff are very friendly and helpful…..but now it was time to try the food.

The Food…

I aimed to have 3 courses, and pick something random from each to see how it was.

Chilli Squid £6.50 (Tonight n/a)
Tender pieces of squid with a crispy and spicy coating of crushed chilli served with carrot & radish salad and homemade sweet and spicy mango chutney.

This was presented really nice, and the smell instantly made my mouth water so it was time to dig in.

This is 1000% the best crispy squid I have ever had!!!, the squid was not chewy it was cooked to perfection.

If you come here this is highly highly recommended!!!!

Main Course

Crab Banjara – Konkani Style Whole Meal £17.90 (tonight n/a) & Peshawari Naan £3.95 (n/a tonight)
A popular whole meal is a typical Indo-Portuguese meal from Goa, Daman and Diu a region along the west coast of today’s India which was once part of the Portuguese State of India. This softshell crab meat marinated with special Konkani spices with a touch of Bell pepper, coconut cream and lime tempered with Mustard Seeds and curry leaves served with tempura king prawn and Coconut Rice.

I had picked another dish with the coconut rice, but the waiter recommended this dish as it comes with the rice and said was nicer…..so I opted to go with his recommendation.

Instantly as soon as the plates hit the table it was instant eye candy and mmmmmm what a smell so good.

I started with the naan! This style of naan is my favourite and what I have found is every restaurant I get this in its always done very differently.

This was very nice again, done differently to other places, the naan was thinner slightly more crispy but the flavour was just as good.

The main dish now….

I tried the rice, then the curry then both together and mmmmm really this was so good!

I am so glad the waiter tonight recommended this, as I could have easily have had seconds.

GULABJAMUN £5.00 (tonight n/a)
Classic Indian dessert recipe Gulab Jamun – Fluffy cardamom-spiced doughnut holes soaked in rose and cinnamon syrup.

This is my favourite Indian dessert, and when I see it on the menu I always get it.

On arrival I noticed that there were nuts sprinkled around the plate, this is nice but I can’t take nuts. A few restaurants have started doing this, it might be good to mention that before bringing it to the table so they can add or not add.

This was very nice and again tasted really good.

My two issues well one you have read is the nuts, and secondly well the presentation…I think you know what I am saying here……I will leave that one here.

Firstly a big thanks for Konkana for my invite.

Just as always even though tonight I was invited to try the restaurant’s food, my review is 100% honest and true to my thoughts.

I am so glad I got invited here! here is another restaurant that will be going on my top spots as I can’t fault it and the food really good!!

Highly recommended!!!!
