Visit & Vibes

I love doing drives to places I have never seen, and today’s drive was to Glen Etive. I have done Glencoe many times, but never this road…so that’s what I did today.

After my drive, I was very hungry and on the way up I spotted here, and just like Glen Etive I have always passed it so on the way home I stopped in for dinner.

The Food

I had no idea what I felt like today, so I was just going to order whatever caught my eye first.

Haggis croquettes £7.00
served with whisky sauce

On arrival, this looked really good, and you got a good amount of sauce with it.

I have had this dish from other places recently, so I had to do a wee comparison.

I tried the croquettes on their own, they had a nice crispness to the outer shell and the flavour of the haggis was nice. I wouldn’t say it was a strong haggis flavour, but a pleasant one.

I now tried one with the whisky sauce….hmm ok again just like the haggis flavour the whisky sauce was very subtle but did add a nice flavour to the dish.

Bridge smashed burger £17.00
2 patties on a sesame seed bun, maple cured streaky bacon, bacon jam, Smokey cheese sauce, giant dill pickle

I saw the name and that it was smashed burgers and I had to see how here did their burgers.

On arrival this looked very good, and smelled nice….now it was time to taste.

I started with the chips, and these are my kind of chips…they are skinny, perfectly salted and very moreish!

Now I took a big bite of the burger and hmm

Flavourwise it was nice, but none of the other flavours was really coming through. The burger was nice, but not as moist as I would have liked it (personal preference)

What I did notice is when one part of the second burger fell onto the plate, this was when all the other flavours instantly came through and it tasted very very nice!

I think a double kills the flavour, whereas if this would have been a single patty it would have been so much better…as when the flavours came through it was very tasty!

Final Thoughts…

Tonight I sat in the bar area to eat, and I can’t fault the staff or service in any way. Everyone was friendly and very attentive.

The food was very good too, I just think changing the double burger to a single will just bring out all those other great flavours.

I look forward to returning and trying some other dishes.
