Dinner parties with your loved ones are one of the nicest ways to spend an evening. When you get them right, they’re filled with fine food, fun and laughter, but they can also be pretty stressful if you’re the host and you aren’t fully prepared!

With that in mind, if you are planning to throw a dinner party in the near future, it might be worth checking out these tips for hosting the perfect dinner party, so you can get it right snd enjoy it as much as your guests.

Preparation is key

If you want to have a fun and relaxed dinner party, but still ensure that everything goes right, it is vital that you plan as much as you can ahead of time.

For example, it’s a good idea to ensure that the dishwasher is empty so you can throw plates in after each course and not have a huge pile of dirty dishes in the kitchen.

It’s also a good idea to do simple food preparation tasks like chopping veggies and parboiling potatoes ahead of time so that you can spend less time getting stressed out in the kitchen and more time having fun with your guests.

Don’t be afraid to cheat

If you want to be the perfect host, you need to be around to greet your guests, ensure the conversation is flowing, and keep topping up the drinks, so it is perfectly fine to get a little bit if it means you can spend more time with your guests,

For example, it’s fine to buy a cocktail making kit that allows you to create a tasty drink in moments or to buy ready-made mash from the local deli so you don’t have to worry about doing it while your guests are waiting for you. After all, the most important part of hosting a dinner party is the conversation and fun times shared with friends.

A centrepiece will make the table sing

A big part of a good dinner party is the theatrics of the whole thing from the flamboyantly presented food to the stunning table decor. If you don’t have a lot of time, but you want your table to look great, a centrepiece of fresh flowers or maybe even a bowl of succulents, will instantly elevate the table, and as long ss the plated and cutlery all match, you won’t need to put much more effort in.

Activities are a must

Dinner parties where you just spend a lot of time talking with friends and having fun are great, but it is always a good idea to have some potential activities planned in case there is a slump. Sit down and write a loose timeline for the night pencilling in time for party games such as card games or Pictionary between courses, and then, if the conversation does lull, you can whip them out and get things going again.

If you aren’t relaxed then your guests will find it harder to let their hair down too, so focus on having a good time instead of everything being perfect and it is more likely to actually turn out to be the perfect evening after all!

Have a great time!
