It had been a while since I last bagged some Munro’s and a while I mean 2019.
The reason I started was something happened in my life that I can only describe as turning my world upside down. I won’t go into any details but it’s something I never thought I would go through and it hit me hard.
A friend suggested I try doing a Munro with them and I have to admit it really helped, as all you can really think about is your footing, if you are there yet, and also how you can’t wait to have that shower when you get home.
Once I bagged my third I was hooked and wanted to see how many more I could do.
I completed my fourth then Covid hit and it wasn’t till 2022 I completed numbers 5 6 7 and 8.
My gran got me some new hiking boots and I could finally break them in and try them. Check them out on my shop as they were very very good for what you are about to read and watch.
Number 5 was Ben Lomond.
This was a great day, I found a group that was doing this hike and joined them. It’s always great to meet new people and also like-minded people, as not many people fancy trying to bag Munro’s due to their height and difficulty.
The day started nice, then as we got closer the clouds came down then the winds picked up and the temperature dropped. At the scramble point, it was a challenge mentally and physically for me, I did think “I should have stayed home” but I continued and got to the top.
The feeling of getting to the top was amazing, granted the views not so much today but it was getting to the top and bagging it.
The walk back was better as we went back the tourist route, and that’s when the bad weather slowly disappeared and the sun came back out again.
This was a great day and I am glad I finally bagged this one.
The Next 3
I had now got to a nice number of bagged Munros, but I spotted in a group I had the chance to bag 3 in one day.
My first time doing 2 in one day, I could barely walk the next day but I added my name to the list and added it to my calendar.
This was a very early start for me as it was close to a 3-hour drive from where I stay, but I don’t mind driving anywhere these days.
This was a great drive as I saw some amazing sights, and even spotted a few wild animals the closer I got to my destination.
This was a very hard hike for me, mostly when we ascended the side of the first one. We had snow, strong winds, and not much footing area…but I rose above the mental and physical challenge and got to the top and bagged number 6.
The views from the top were amazing though due to the strong winds and weather visibility was so-so but it was still WOW
Next 7 bagged then 8 and then it was time to head back to the car for my drive home.
When I was sitting in my car just before driving home, its a great feeling you get knowing what you have just done as it is a dangerous thing to do but when you watch what you do, think carefully you just feel amazing and then you think “I really need a shower”
Again I tested my new boots and can’t fault them, and look forward to wearing them on my next Munros.
I wonder what my 9th and 10th will be 🙂
