A Great Watch…
No Spoilers….If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll have noticed that this year hasn’t been as busy. That’s mostly because I’ve been trying to be sensible and watch my money after finishing my renovation. Honestly, it’s been a bit boring doing that, but it has given me time to catch up on several things—like sorting out the garden, fixing little bits and pieces around the house, and working through my very long watchlist.
Recently though, I hit a slump. I kept starting shows, getting bored, and moving on. I wasn’t sure if it was just poor choices from my list or simply my mood. Then one day on TikTok, I noticed a lot of people talking about Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. Since it was food-related and I enjoy cooking shows and competitions, I thought, why not give it a go?
Within 20 minutes, I was glued to my TV. By the end of the first episode, I was completely hooked.
Don’t worry—there won’t be any spoilers in this review (I hate when people do that). But I will say this: it was really, really good. No pun intended, but it had all the right ingredients. The storylines were strong, the cast was excellent, and the chemistry between the two leads was amazing. It had everything—comedy, serious drama, and plenty of suspense. Some episodes even had me sitting on the edge of my seat, desperate to know what would happen next. It’s extremely well-written, and I was hooked from start to finish.
Netflix released two episodes every weekend, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. I watched them as soon as they dropped. Part of me wished the whole series had been available at once so I could binge it, but in hindsight, I’m glad they staggered the release. Waiting actually made me appreciate each episode more and kept me excited for the next one.
The casting deserves a special mention. The leads were phenomenal—you can’t help rooting for something to develop between them, even though at first you don’t really like the king. Over time, he grows on you. By the end, you’re left with mixed feelings about how things should turn out for the main character. You want two very different outcomes for her, but you know both can’t happen. You’ll understand exactly what I mean once you watch it.
I haven’t been this gripped by a TV series in a long time, and what made it even better is that it was a completely different style of show for me. On Netflix, you can watch it either with subtitles or in English dubbed. I chose the dubbed version, and I have to admit—it didn’t lose any of the emotion or acting quality. It was very well done. I’m sure watching it in the original language with subtitles would also capture that same feeling, but either way, it works. So, if you’re reading this thinking “I don’t like subtitles,” then watch it dubbed—I promise you’ll still enjoy it.
The last two episodes were an emotional rollercoaster that kept me wondering what would happen next. As for the ending—well, I won’t spoil it—but I thought it was the best possible way to finish the series. Judging by other reviews, it seems I’m not the only one who feels that way.
I don’t normally write reviews for shows like this, but I enjoyed it so much, and since it was something completely different for me (which I always like to try), I thought I’d share my thoughts. If you give it a watch, come back here and let me know what you think in the comments!
