Chaakoo Bombay Cafe Bloggers Meet Up #1 (Glasgow) : Review

invite

When I started this blog I set it up as a challenge, I wanted to try and improve my spelling and my social life and see what its like to become a blogger. I ate out a lot so I decided to become a food blogger, as I was always getting teased at constantly taking photos of my food.

October 2016 was when I really focused on my blog, as prior to that it was just a little “if i remember to do it” project. At that point I only had 30 odd twitter followers, and just friends on my Instagram. Now January 2017, those numbers have changed a lot.

Over the past few months, I have been to a large amount of restaurants and been invited to a few events. I have also made many new friends along the way, all of them really lovely and would like to keep in touch and see them more often.

Now 2017 my goals for my blog are :

  • Be more critical in all reviews
  • Try more random products to add to the mix of my food reviews
  • Arrange some Glasgow Blogger meet ups.
  • Vlogging

The first two points above are easy to achieve, but the last two not so much.

I have seen and heard from people (mostly heard) that Glasgow  Blogger meet ups have been arranged in the past, but normally a large amount say yes and then only a little turn up or its called off. They also tend to be mostly food specific…why? so thats something I wanted to change.

I used to prepare a lot of events and DJ inside the online game Secondlife for a charity, so I thought lets use that knowledge and bring it to this.

My first task was to figure out location and who to invite, I thought starting small was the best idea.

I won’t go in to full detail, but I meet a few people at the Revolution de Cuba bloggers event and have kept in touch. I have also kept in touch with Emma Eats and Weekends with Wendy since my last meet ups with them. I thought this would be the perfect start and messaged them.

Next was to think of a location, but this was an easy one….Chaakoo Bombay Cafe.

Our Meet Up : Friday 27th January 2017

Location : Chaakoo

As you may have seen from my Tweets or blogs, I have been to Chaakoo a lot. The food is amazing and the staff are very friendly. For my first meet up this was where I wanted it to be.

Invited : 14

Just like all events planned you never really expect to have a full house, people plans change, they don’t feel well etc etc. Tonight we had a total of 7, for me this was a success as I was only expecting 4 or less mostly due to it being the first and due to the small amount invited.

The Guests :

I have to say at this point if you reading this and know me, and wondering why you never got an invite don’t worry I am not ignoring you there was a reason. The people I invited tonight all have similar personalities or I thought would mix well with everyone.

This was a key factor to arranging tonight, I didn’t want to just invite x y and z and hope they mixed so I planned it that there would be some form of connection etc.

The people that turned up tonight were :

  • Chris : This is my best friend and he has been very supportive with my blogging.

Weekends With Wendy : A travel blogger and friend that I have met a few times since I started blogging.

Evy, evidently : Evy is a blogger and Vlogger. I have only been in contact with Evy very recently, and again she is a very nice girl to chat with and look forward to meeting and chatting to her more.

And me 🙂

As you can see if you take a look at everyones blog, I didn’t just focus on food bloggers. There are a lot of really nice bloggers in Glasgow, and they don’t just focus on food so now its time we have a meet up and meet everyone.

Also my plan is to hold it at a different restaurant every time, as its always good to try somewhere new.

We were welcomed by the staff at Chaakoo and given a nice welcome cocktail, and a lovely set table for everyone tonight.

We all ordered what we wanted and just chatted, and took photos of the food and each other.

I won’t do a food review here as I had some of the same dishes that I have already posted about, so check my reviews out when you get a chance.

I had a fun time, and it was good to see everyone getting a long.

I would like to give a BIG thanks to everyone who attended tonight, and also a BIGGER thanks to Chaakoo who gave us great service and a few freebies tonight as you helped make tonight very special for everyone and me.

If you haven’t tried Chaakoo yet take a look at their website and visit : chaakoo.co.uk

Now I planning on doing another meet up last week February, or first week March I will speak to everyone and see what is best. I discussed my idea at tonights meet up, and it seemed to go down well so now I’ve just to contact the manager and arrange dates and numbers.

If you’re a Glasgow blogger and would like an invite, DM me on Twitter and lets chat 🙂

Next meet up there will be 20 spaces.

It’s time us bloggers meet up more!

🙂

New Years Eve at the Blythswood Square Hotel (Glasgow) : Review

11 Blythswood Square
Glasgow G2 4AD
UK

T: +44 141 248 8888

W: www.blythswoodsquare.com

I have been to the Blythswood several times, sometimes with family and others with friends or my mum. The last few times I have been for Afternoon Tea, and family events.

The Blythswood Hotel has been done up nicely, and the staff and service has always been very good. Atmosphere the past few times I have been, has always been very hit or miss…I don’t know what it is but every visit there is always a little something missing for me.

Tonight was a family a friends night, I went with my parents and my best friend and his mum and dad. My grandparents were there, and so were my aunt, uncle and two cousins. Some of my Aunt’s friends and cousins friends were also there, so it was a busy and big table.

Once everyone arrived and introduced themselves we all found out places and sat down.

We all sat and talked, and also had a look at the menu to see what we wanted.

Starter :

Cream of parsnip and pear velouté
Parmesan wafer, herb oil

img_4310

I am not a soup person but I have been trying take a better mixed meal every time I go out, and the soup was a good option for me to start with.

This was very nice, you could taste the parsnip and the honey. The Parmesan wafer was very nice, and added that extra little flavour to the dish.

Main :

Ironbark pumpkin and mascarpone risotto
Grilled artichokes, blue cheese croquette, chive cream sauce

I love risotto so when I saw it on the menu tonight, it was the dish for me.

This was very nice, very creamy and full of flavour. The blue cheese croquette was very nice, and I could have had more of that with it.

Dessert

Knocraich Farm yoghurt and red berry panna cotta
Spiced honey and clementine macaron, blackcurrant sorbet, fresh red currants and cinder toffee.

Again another dish where I couldn’t fault it, it again was a perfect portion size and was full of flavour.

Throughout this meal there was a live singer, his name is Henrick Solera. Henrick Solera who is a singer and entertainer came over from the Martinez Hotel France to perform for tonights dinner. If you check out his Facebook page you will see he sings in many different venues.

Henrick Solera Facebook : www.facebook.com/henricksolera/
Twitter : @henricksolera
Website : www.rickysolera.com

Henrick Solera is an international singer, musician & entertainer. Singing Sinatra classics as well as contemporary hits by Josh Groban and Michael Bublé, an evening with Solera is one that will put a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

His passion for the great American songbook, beloved evergreens, retro swing tunes, broadway classics, and unforgettable majestic ballads will move you and speak to your heart.

** Taken from his website

This was the first time I have really heard Henrick perform live, I have seen a few videos as my Aunt Uncle and cousins stay in the south of France and have seen Henrick a few times.

All the songs Henrick sang were perfect for the evening, and the level of music was ok. Yes, you did need to talk a little louder but it wasn’t to the level where you were shouting at the people around you so this was nice.

One part of the evening I was really looking forward to was my little cousin Danni, she got up and sang a few solo songs and a few duets with Henrick.

Danni was really amazing, she has a great voice and I wish she sang more last night. I am a very proud cousin, as she has a gift and was very brave singing to everyone….Something I know I couldn’t do even if I did have a good voice.

Overall :

One issue that everyone at the table wasn’t happy with, was the length of time it took for each course to come out. After we arrived and ordered it took an hour and a half for the first course to come out, and this continued per course.

I don’t know if it was due to the large amount at our table, they waited till every dish was made before bring it out or if they just didn’t have enough kitchen staff or to prolong it to the bells. I wasn’t really to fussed as we weren’t in a rush and it allowed us to have a good chat.

Apart from this delay, the food and night was very nice. Everyone enjoyed the evening and was nice to welcome the New Year with family and friends and I did it sitting close to my parents and my best friend and his parents 🙂

Happy New Year everyone!!!!
