The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack in South Queensferry has marked its first anniversary, which fittingly fell on National Fish & Chip Day, Friday, the 5^th of June.

Staff proudly wore red bucket hats emblazoned with the National Fish & Chip Day logo, as footballers from the restaurant’s sponsored team, KSQ’s Galaxy & Rapids, locally based in South Queensferry, came along to showcase their skills in the car park. 

The day also saw the Restaurant appeal for donations for its adopted charity, Cash for Kids Holiday Hunger.

“This special day, which also happened to be our first anniversary, was an ideal opportunity to raise more money for Cash for Kids,” said owner, Bryan Coghill. “We want to have a special push on the Holiday Hunger Initiative which helps children and young people up to eighteen years who are facing food insecurity, and lack access to free school meals, & other assistance, normally available in term time.”

“We asked our customers if they would donate by “buying” an invisible fish supper. We have a live link on the Radio Forth Community Champions website where we are listed https://www.cashforkidsgive.co.uk/campaign/radio-forth-charity-champions/fundraisers/the-crab-and-lobster-fish-shack/. We also have leaflets on the tables in the restaurant, with a special QR code that you can scan to donate. As an additional incentive, everyone who donates will be entered into a prize draw to win two free fish suppers each month for a year.”

“Luckily the weather was kind to us on Friday and we were able to have a fun event in the car park with footballers from Galaxy & Rapids coming along to try and score goals in a bucket,” continued Bryan.

“The highlight of the day was some live filming carried out with That’s TV Lothian. It was both exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. Their roving reporter, Rachel, was able to go behind the scenes and see just what goes into creating the perfect fish supper. Fish & Chips is still very much the nation’s favourite, of course, which is what the National Day is all about!”

“It’s a science to cook them perfectly!”

Bryan finished by saying: “Overall, it was a brilliant day, and we’d like to thank everyone who came along, made a donation, or joined in the football fun.”

“Rather than cutting a cake for our 1^st Birthday, for us, it’s all about our customers. We created a delicious Birthday Sundae which was on our dessert menu. It went down very well, proving that we’re not just about fish and chips, although they will always be the star of the show here!”
