Vietnamese Caramelized Chili Shrimp (Tom Rim) : Recipe

Here is a another Vietnamese dish I tried which included the Me’s Way Chilli Sauce I was gifted.

This is another dish you have to try its sooo good.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 lbs shrimp or King Prawn if you cant find shrimp
  • 1.5 teaspoon Me’s Way Chilli Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chicken stock
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 5 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 large white onion (diced)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 spring onion (for presentation)

Method

  1. Start by cleaning the shrimp by adding shrimp and salt in a bowl and giving them a good massage even if you buy them frozen (thaw first)
  2. Marinate the shrimp with fish sauce, Me’s Way Chilli Sauce, stock powder, sugar, black pepper, half of the minced garlic and half of white onion for at least 1 hour or overnight in fridge for best results.
  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil on medium high.
  2. Now add the remaining garlic and white onion.
  3. Saute until fragrant (15-20 seconds).
  4. Add shrimp and all its marinade.
  5. Cook until liquid is mostly cooked off.
  6. Plate up and garnish with sliced spring onions and a dash of black pepper. Serve with steamed white rice.

Me’s Way Vietnamese Chilli Sauce : Review

About Me’s Way:

Hand-crafted for three generations, made from scratch with locally sourced, natural ingredients, prepared in small batches so the flavors fuse and deepen. Each bite evokes a rich history of family, tradition, and love that makes passing Mẹ’s Way around the table special.

The Delivery

As you may have seen I tried making my own chilli sauce, and it turned out ok.

Me’s Way contacted me and asked if I would like to try their Chilli sauce which is a family recipe and I said yes.

Visually this is great branding in my opinion as the colours and design just stand out.

I opened the lid and took a smell, ohhh this was sooo nice its difficult to describe apart from mmmmmm I think that sums it up.

The Chilli Sauce

This 100% looks much better than mine and smells really good.

I tried a very very small amount from the jar, just as it is on a spoon and WOW this had a good strong kick but after that initial kick the amazing flavours come through and mmmm so good.

I decided I would make something and use it in the recipe to add a little kick and this lovely flavour.

I made Vietnamese chilli meatball lettuce wraps (recipe soon), and used the Me’s Way chilli sauce in the meatball mix.

The end result was very very tasty, and I can’t wait to use this more in some upcoming recipes.

Overall :

Firstly a big thank you to Me’s Way for the chilli sauce, and introducing me to a new and wonderful chilli sauce.

The recipe for my Vietnamese chilli meatball lettuce wraps will be posted soon, so order this sauce so you have it ready for my recipe.

I highly!!! recommend this, so please do check them out and order some I promise you will love it.

A solid 5/5 rating from me.

I have passed here a good few times and also the smell has made me hungry, so I added it to my list to visit.

Today I did just that and was really looking forward to it.

First Impressions :

As you walk closer to the door you smell amazing food smells, and when you walk in that continues.

This is a very funky looking restaurant, downstairs as you can see from the below photos has a very relaxing feel with the eye catching multicoloured lanterns hanging.

Today I sat upstairs and outside.

Upstairs is also very nice, smaller than downstairs but having the outside part helps making that more appealing more so when we have some nice weather.

Now on to the food…

The Food :

What you need to remember when you order here is that its not a starter then main, as soon as the food is ready it will come out so very similar to Tapas style.

I didn’t really know what to order, so luckily it was like tapas style so I ordered 3 dishes which would give me a good feel of how the food is.

Cha Gio Heo £6.25
Crispy Pork Spring Rolls

On arrival I knew I order something good, this looked nice and also smelled nice.

To taste this was very good, packed with flavour and dipping it in the dip that came along with it added more flavour. The batter was nice and crispy, and the whole dish was great.

You can eat them as is, use the sauce or even wrap the letter around them and do all.

For me this is a dish I would order again.

Vietnamese Fish Cakes

I am a big fan of fish cakes, so I thought lets see how these are.

For me I was a little disappointed, as they were a little rubbery but then again I don’t know if this is how Vietnamese Fish Cakes are meant to be like this.

Flavour was OK for me, and am not sure if its one that I would order again but don’t let my thoughts stop you trying as you never know you may love these.

Heo Quay Banh Gal £8.95
Chilli glazed pork and crispy rice cakes

For me my first thought was “all that green stuff” as you know from reading am not a salad person, but lucky my girlfriend took that part and left me the rest.

This was sooooooo good, the pork was very nice and the flavour was amazing. There was the odd part that was a little chewy but I didn’t mind. The rice cakes I loved so much and wish there was more!!!

I would order this dish again and recommend you try it if you visit.

I cant wait to go back and sample a few more dishes, so keep watching this space.

If you are in the area please do pop in, its now in my top 3 places in the West End.
