I am not a tea person, I prefer my coffee’s but today was a little family day trip and it was also another new place for me to visit.

Looking Around

Ok this is not what I was expecting!

This was a very funky, different place to the way I imagined it. There were seating areas with tabes, areas you could sit on the floor to drink your tea this was very different but cool at the same time.

The Tea

As mentioned I am not really a tea person, but I decided to look for ones that were either sweet or sounded different and I would just randomly pic one of those.

Raspberry Flower £3.60
old remedy for many things such as nervousness, bowel pains and sore throats. This tasty tea may not taste of raspberry fruit, but it has a refreshing flavour all of its own.

I poured the tea, and drank it and….it just tasted like tea.

For me this was just a meh, tasted like any other tea I have had in the past

Visit Overall :

What a cool and interesting little place, it had a funky interior and had a MASSIVE amount of teas on the menu.

Unfortunately I still don’t think tea is for me, but maybe one day I could be proven wrong.

Till my next visit..

Yip another visit, and I couldn’t wait as I needed another Charcoals fix.

For me this is my all time favourite Indian restaurant, every visit the service is 10/10 and also the food is bursting with flavour and amazingly tasty.

The Food…

Chai Tea

Not really a starter but I did order it when I went in, rather than my normal cola as I wanted to give this tea a shot.

Meat Samosa £3.25
Lamb minced and spices rolled in a pastry

Well there would be a photo here but I was hungry and guess what? I forgot to take it (sorry)

Anyway……I would normally go for the vegetable samosa, but today I thought lets try the meat one. Lamb for me is hit and miss, some dishes i like it, some I don’t but I wanted to be different today.

This was so so good, and it was that good I visited here 3 days later for my works night out and had this again.

Main Course

Charcoals Goldie £9.95 & Peshwari Naan £3.50
7 Lentils cooked together in chefs special spices, chicken or lamb.

This is my all time favourite naan, I love the flavour and it works well with nearly every dish.

I had this dish ages ago and thought lets have it again, as I remember I really liked it so hopefully it was the same today.

This was a little spicy but just a little kick nothing major, and wow the flavours were amazing. Its very hard to describe, but all I can say is mmmmm and this with the naan worked very well.

Afternoon Tea at the Edinburgh Waldorf Astoria Hotel

Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian
Princes Street, Edinburgh EH1 2AB

Visit Date : Friday 25th November 2016

I had a day off work so I decided to take a trip to Edinburgh to see the shops, and the Christmas Market and see what sales were on.

I visited the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on my last visit to Edinburgh, and really enjoyed it so I thought I would do the same again this time and it would make a nice start to the day trip.

You can read about my last visit here : VIEW

On entering this time I noticed that they had decorated for Christmas, and they had decorations all over. This was very nice to see, and put me in a very festive mood.

The room that the Afternoon Tea and snacks are in is called the Peacock Alley Lobby Lounge, this is where I was last time and felt very relaxed.

As you can see by the photos it’s a very nice looking area, I didn’t take lots of photos as there were other people about so if you want to see more check the website.

Here is the full details of the Afternoon Tea :

£32 per person

I had put some money aside the past few months to treat myself to this, as yes it’s a little costly but I wanted to see what it was like.

On arrival you are presented with the three tier stand, and told that once you have eaten the bottom two places the rest will follow.

Presentation wise this is very nice, and similar to others I have had in the past….so now it was time to start eating.

Everything I tasted on the bottom two tiers was very nice, very fresh and very tasty. Once they were finished we waited a little, and then the other two plates arrived. The scones were very warm so I am guessing freshly made, and the cakes looked very nice.

Nothing beats proper cream on a scone and jam, this for me is always a winner as a lot of places use cheap cream or whipped spray cream which never works or tastes as nice.

Overall for me this was a really good Afternoon Tea, the cost of this is similar to some hotels in Glasgow but you never get this amount probably only half this. Everything about this was perfect and next visit I would have again.

This is now in my top three afternoon tea places, followed by the Glasgow Corinthian and then La Bonne Auberge.

This is a solid 10 out of 10 for me, excellent value for money due to the amount you get.

If you put some money aside and like Afternoon Tea’s do check here out, the atmosphere etc you will love.
