Swadish (Glasgow) : Review

V: 14th December 2019

I visited Swadish not long after it opened, as Ajay the owner and chef sent me an invite. That night was really good, as I loved everything I ordered and said I would be back.

I always keep my word if I say I will be back, sometimes it may be sooner than expected and sometimes longer due to my busy schedule.

Tonight I went back with my best friend Chris, and we both had an amazing night.

Here is what I had and thought.

The Food

Ajay said when I return I should try the fish, so tonight I had to try a fish dish.

I went in only wanting to have one dish, but when I looked at the starters I had to try something…so my one dish became two.

Starter

Sweet Potato Chaat £5.50 (Vegan)
Spinach, Fritter, Pomegranate, Coriander, Tamarind, Sweet Yoghurt, Pomegranate Reduction.

I wanted to try a few starters but after thinking what one to select, I left to a quick random selection.

This was a really good starter for me, as it was very light, nice flavours and didn’t leave me too full which meant I had space for my main.

All the ingredients worked perfectly together.

Punjabi Spiced Salmon £15.00
Tandoor roasted Scottish Salmon, Masala Potatoes, Tomato and Fenugreek Sauce, Raita.

Wow this was a big portion, and the smell was amazing…time to dig in.

mmmmmm that sums up every single mouthful.

The salmon was cooked perfectly and worked with the sauces and Masala potatoes! everything on the plate and every mouthful was perfect.

Desert :

Ajay came out and we had a wee chat, and it was nice to see him and have a chat again. He offered us a wee desert on the house, and you know me for my sweet tooth I couldn’t say no.

Melt In Love (tonight free thanks to Ajay, normally £7.50)
Ginger Chocolate Sphere with Chocolate Brownie, White Chocolate Mousse, Caramel Hazelnut Crumbs. Hot Caramel Sauce, Dehydrated Raspberries.

Firstly when this arrived this looked very nice, then when the sauce got poured over it oh it was another treat for the eyes. (will be shown in the vlog)

This was very sweet but so so good, the chocolate with the mousse and the caramel sauce oh so so good!!! this just like the other dishes was perfect! full of flavour, and all the ingredients worked amazing together.

This was heaven for me and my sweet tooth.

Swadish (Merchant City, Glasgow) : Review

Swadish

V: 26th September 2019

I got a wee ping in my Instagram inbox from Ajay, inviting me to come to Swadish for dinner. Ajay is the owner and Chef of Swadish, which is new to Merchant City (since around end of May).

I accepted and set a date in my calender.

Swadish has been on my ever growing hit list to visit, so this was really good and I started to have a wee snoop at the menu before going.

Swadish is situated where Ad Lib used to be, if that doesnt ring any bells look at the top of this review to see the address and have a nosy on Google Maps.

Looking Around

On entering I could see the changes to the decor from its previous owner (Ad Lib), it looked a lot more fresh, modern, warm and relaxing. This was much better, and more visually appealing!!

We were shown to our table, and had a look at the menu and about Swadish.

A little palate cleanser was given to us, while we had a look at the menu.

This was very refreshing and a nice little idea….after a few mins we got some nibbles while we decided what to order.

Yup I know what you are thinking, whats the while ball thing at the top….yip that was also my thoughts. I cant remember its name, but the closest way to describe it is like balled prawn crackers but without the prawn flavour.

All the dips were home made, and these own their own or with dips were very nice.

The Food

I planned only to have two courses tonight, and to be honest I really couldn’t decided as there was at least 4 starters I liked the sound of and probably the same amount for the mains.

Ajay told me that all the ingredients are all locally sourced, but cooked the traditional Indian way. I loved this concept, and couldn’t wait to start eating.

Appetiser

Sesame Fish Fried : £N/A tonight (Normally £5.50)

Scottish Haddock, Sesame Sees, Pickled Cucumber, Onion, Roasted Tomato & Avocado Salsa

I decided to order this since it said Scottish Haddock, and see how the fusion of Scottish ingredients with the Indian cooking was.

I was expecting something that tasted like fish fingers, but I was so wrong.

These were very nice, the flavour of the fish was subtle and the batter just crispy which made the perfect mouthful.

Crispy Alloo Nest Chaat : £N/A tonight (Normally £4.50)

Potato Rosati Nest, White Pea Mash, Tamarind and Sweet Yogurt.

I was told tonight that this is one of the most popular dishes, and I can see and taste why.

Visually this was really nice, and the taste WOW getting everything so you have the perfect bite gave you a perfect bite.

I could have easily had two of these.

Main Course :

Again there were so many options I wanted to try, but I decided to pick something random.

Lamb Shank Rogan Josh : £N/A tonight (Normally £14)

Tender Scottish Lamb Shank Braised in Bone Marrow, Cinnamon, Fennel Seeds, Cloves for 8 hours for delicate flavours and mouth melting texture, Crispy Straw Potatoes.

Wow this was a big portion, and the smell was amazing…time to dig in.

Sauce flavours were very very nice, and the lamb! wow now this was cooked to perfection. The lamb meat just slide off the bone, leaving it clean! perfect!!

Sides :

Truffle Kulcha with Wild Mushroom : £N/A tonight (Normally £4.95)

So I am not a super fan of mushrooms, but that doesn’t stop me for trying food that has them in it.

This was really nice naan, the mushrooms added a nice flavour and there was a slight after taste of garlic.

I am glad I tried something different, as I would order this again with maybe a curry.

Mango Peshwari Naan : £N/A tonight (normally £4.25)

So I love ordering Peshwari Naan, and recently got one that was not good!!! So when I came here I had to see how Swadish did them.

I like the naan to be soft and very sweet, and this was very nice….I was happy to have a good Peshwari Naan 🙂

Desert :

So you will have read at the start I said I wasn’t going to have anything else, but Ajay was kind enough to make me some Kulfi.

Saffron and Pistachio Kulfi : £N/A tonight (Normally £7.00)

Traditional Indian Custard-based and creamier Ice Cream, Vanilla Sponge. Pistachio Crumbs, Dehydrated Raspberries, Quinoa Brittle.

I am not a nuts person, so I only had a little of this but I was helped to finish this as I came here with my girlfriend.

The little I did taste was very nice, creamy, very tasty.

Thanks Ajay, and sorry I only took a little….I cant take nuts.

Firstly thank you Ajay and the staff at Swadish, I had a fantastic evening and really nice food.
