This was my 4th Mela, and I enjoyed the last 3 so I was really looking forward to todays event. I have to admit the past 3 times I’ve been, 2 out of 3 its rained none stop so I was hoping for a nice day which we kinda got.
The weather today said dull cloudy with light rain, and this was accurate as we did get rain on and off but mostly off so that didn’t put a downer on the day. Todays Mela was the busiest I have seen, which was good for all the stalls and acts that were here today.
If you have never attended a Mela you have many stalls that sell clothes, jewellery, food, toys etc all mixed. Then you have a few stages where there are several types of acts performing, these can range in dancing, singing, both etc so there is definitely a lot to keep you entertained.
My last visit I tried something called a Jalebi, it’s a traditional Indian sweet mostly eaten on its own or in warm milk and is an important part of festivals and celebrations. If you have a sweet tooth this is for you, if not then avoid but do be warned its very addictive well it was for me.
The event starts at 12 and finished around 7pm so it’s a good long day, so if you want to see the acts you have to get there early to catch all the performances.
I won’t go into full details about every act, I am going to mention the ones that stood out for me or you would be reading for hours and hours…..so will keep it short for you.
Abhinaya Dance Group
These girls were very good, they performed several times to different style of music and dances. Each move was perfectly times, and a smooth transition between songs and dances.
The colours were visually stunning, and the dances were perfect.
Roshan Prince is a Punjabi singer, producer, musician, songwriter and actor.
For me Roshan Prince was someone I didn’t know, films or music (had a look when I got home) so I didn’t know what to expect. When he was introduced the audience went wild, and even more so when he was singing and not just from the girls.
He was very energetic and what I liked was he interacted with the crowd a lot, so it was a very fun performance to watch.
This years Mela was really good, and I was very pleased to see such a large turn out and even more so the rain didn’t last long.
Just like the previous years, I was introduced to more performers, dancers, singers etc which is always good.
Please do visit this next year, as you will see when you get there you will have lots to do and see.
I have been visiting Lomond Shores a lot this year, its a really relaxing place and its a nice day out.
On April 1st and 2nd they were holding their SpringFest event, this event has many many stalls food, drink etc so this is one event I couldn’t miss.
I was going with a group of friends, most who had never seen Lomond Shores and they were looking forward to seeing it. We aimed to get the train from Glasgow Central as this is a nice way to travel here, and it only takes about 50-55 minutes.
On arrival at Central Station we were told that the lines to Balloch were getting replaced, and a bus service was put on for this. This bus service would take about 1 hour and 50 mins, so we knew we were in for a long trip…on the plus side the train would be back on for the return to Glasgow.
Anyway enough of the trip and now to the event….
SpringFest 2017 :
I had three stalls I really wanted to visit at SpringFest 2017 they were :
Island Slice Rum
All Things Nice Food
Two of the above I had seen at the last Lomond Shores event, but Island Slice Rum I had recently seen on Facebook and since I like rum had to check them out to see what they offer.
On arrival I could see there were A LOT more stall than the previous time, this was great to see and tons of people walking about so I was happy it was as busy as this for all the stalls and Lomond Shores.
There were lots of stalls here today, so I won’t bored you and do a full run down but what I will do is talk about the main ones I visited.
I had seen a few Instagram and Facebook mentions about Island Slice, and then spotted that they were going to be at this event so I added them as one my 100% must check out stalls.
As you know I have been doing a lot of Rum Club Promotions when Sugar Dumplin (Glasgow) was open, and now about to start promoting a new Glasgow Rum Club so I had to buy some of Island Slice products to sample.
I decided to go for the pack today which contained the following :
Caribbean Rum Fusion
Caribbean Wine Fusion
Funky Island Slice Glass
I tried the samples today of both the above and liked both, so I got this today to try at home.
Caribbean Rum Fusion : This is my favourite out the two fusions, it just tastes right, had a nice after taste and you want more. It’s not a strong flavour, and the spices add a nice flavour.
Caribbean Wine Fusion : For me this is ok, its got an ok taste but one that I couldn’t drink a lot of where as the Rum one I could.
I really liked these and will get more next time I see these guys, both drinks were very refreshing and my favourite was the Caribbean Rum Fusion one
I visited this company at the last Lomond Shore event, and just like the Funky Fudge and Island Slice I had to come back and try some Jam this time round as I got a Salted Caramel Sauce.
Just like last time we got talking, and again had a nice chat. Today I got a marmalade for my Gran and a Jam for myself.
The Jam I got today was “Strawberry and Cracked Black Pepper Jam”, at the time of writing this post I have not tried it yet as I am working my way through the Fudge, the Rum etc etc etc but I will add a little update when I do.
Loch Lomond Shores,
Ben Lomond Way,
Visit Date : Sunday 19th February 2017
I had heard that a Market was coming to Loch Lomond Shores, and I have never been to one. I have always just come here to visit and shop, so I thought lets give it a shot and see what its like.
The only markets I have been to, were the Christmas Markets so I had that in mind as to what it would be like.
As most of you know I stay in Glasgow, so my girlfriend and I got the Train from Central Station to Balloch. From here we walked through a park and in to Loch Lomond Shores, just be warned the park gets a little muddy when its has been raining but on a nice day its fine.
Before coming to this event, I had a few Twitter exchanges with Loch Lomond Shores and Funky Fudge.
On arrival I could hear someone singing, and the chatter of everyone here and the smell of food. The market was located at the side of the shopping centre, there wasn’t a lot of stalls as I expected more but there was a good mix of items for sale.
To begin with I decided to do a once around, take a look at the stall maybe chat to the sellers and see if there was anything I wanted to get.
I am doing this by memory as these stalls below stood out for me, I am sure I probably missed some so you will be able to find them on the Lomond Shores Website or Facebook events page.
As I said above I had tweeted Funky Fudge a few times before coming, this was the first time hearing about this company.
I stopped at the stall and said hi, I spoke to the guys today and they were very pleasant and we had a nice chat. The stall was loaded with all types of fudge, and I could have gone crazy as I have a very very sweet tooth.
I had to restrain myself so the fudge I purchased was :
Chocolate & Orange
The price was £1.50 per bar or 4 for £5, which I thought was a very good price. Its bad to say but all 5 bars were finished within 48hours, here is what I thought of them.
My favourite was the Billionaire Fudge, the texture and taste was 100% perfect. This fudge “Billionaire Fudge” I was told was the companies very first, so this was one of the reasons I took one to try.
The others were nice, but I have a very sweet tooth so I needed the flavours to come over a little more. I shared some with friends and they said the taste was perfect for them, so its all down to personal taste and my sweet sweet tooth.
When I see them again I will be getting more of this one mmmmm so good.
If you have been following my blogs or tweets you know this year I am trying to learn more about Gin, and also sample a few gins as I dont know much or anything about this type of drink.
My girlfriend and I entered the tent, and was welcomed by the two girls that were at this stall. I got talking and they offered me a sample to try, the sample was a very small amount it was just enough to get any taste. The one I sampled was the chocolate mint, it was very pleasant. Unfortunately a sample wasn’t offered to my girlfriend, who would have also liked to try a sample of the one I had.
You could purchase one bottle or a small boxed pack of 4, the bottles I can’t remember the exact prices as they varied but the 4 boxed were £28.
I was going to go back for the boxed pack, but we got busy in the shops and by the time we came out the market was finished.
Fiona Brown Home Baking
[no photo as it got very bashed on my journey home]
Unfortunately Fiona doesn’t have any social network account, or a website she bakes for these markets and you can find her at most of them.
I got an Extra Caramel Slice from her stall today, as I wanted to try her home baking.
For me it was nice, personally I would have liked a little more caramel than base but thats just me. It’s a lot better than the shops ones, and tasted a lot nice but a little more caramel would have suited me (sweet tooth strikes again)
Throughout the time I was at the market, I could hear Lisa sing.
This was my first time hearing of and hearing Lisa, the music she played was good for this event as it blended nicely in the background and was very relaxing.
I made sure I stopped and listened to a few songs.
Do check Lisa out on her Twitter or Facebook, here is a short video I took VIEW
As I said I am sure there are a few stalls that I have not mentioned, but please do check Lomond Shores events page to get the full details of everyone that was here.
If any of the stalls that were at the event would like me to update any of my information, feel free to contact me and I will be happy to do that.
The next big one at Lomond Shores for me will be in April, its called SpringFest 2017 where there will be more stall food and drink. I will take photos, videos and even a live video which you will be able to watch on my Twitter page.
I will also try and take more money next time, so I can get some more things to add to my review. And will try and take some photos of the shopping centre, so you can see what its like incase you have never been there.
For me Lomond Shores is a very relaxing place to visit, and I look forward to my next visit.
