Kitchen Punjab Platter (Glasgow & East Kilbride) : Review

GIFTED

I was sitting having a look at different profiles on Instagram last week, and I spotted Kitchen Punjabs account and the food and cost caught my eye so I started following.

On Saturday 20th the guys sent me a message, to see if I would like to try one of their platters.

About

Fresh & Home-made Punjabi food from our kitchen to yours, cooked fresh on the day. Free Delivery in Glasgow/EK, 6-8pm and orders Wed & Sat only. Wednesday is the Vegan night.

Kitchen Punjab is fairly new about just over a month old at the time of posting this, and I got talking to them and learned that everything is home made, made with love and you can really taste this.

Heat & Eat Platter

The guys sent me the Heat and Eat Platter which consisted of :

  • Tadka Chawaal (Fried Rice)
  • Makhini Chicken Curry (butter chicken)
  • Chapli Kebab
  • Roti
  • Chicken Pakora
  • Raita
  • Salad

The normal cost for this is £20 with free Glasgow and East Kilbride delivery…..how good is that!!! and its can feed two people or one very hungry person.

You get a lovely little message with the platter, which also includes heating instructions. This part doesn’t take long, so if your very hungry dont worry you wont wait long to eat.

My Starter

So I got out all the starter items, and platted it up.

I started with chicken pakora.

The chicken pakora batter was not too crispy but not soft, just a nice amount of crunch. The chicken was nice and tender, and overall a really good flavour! I could have easily had more of these.

Next the Chapli Kebab.

I think this is the first time having this, so I was looking forward to how it tasted.

This was very nice, it was packed with a lovely flavour and I enjoyed every mouthful.

my Main Course :

  • Tadka Chawaal (Fried Rice)
  • Makhini Chicken Curry (butter chicken)
  • Roti

I started with the rice and it was cooked perfectly, and I think I could taste cinnamon through the rice which added such a lovely flavour.

The roti was nicely cooked, and tasted good.

The curry wow! flavour wise really good, worked amazingly with the rice mega moreish. For me it had a big kick, but that didn’t stop me finishing it.

Note : Just because this was gifted, that has not influenced my thoughts in any way. The above is a 100% honest review of the food.

Firstly a big thanks to the guys at Kitchen Punjab for making my Saturday night better 🙂

The food from arrival, easy to heat, and the flavours I loved from start to end.

As I said these guys are pretty new on the scene, but going by the quality and flavours of the food you wouldn’t know it.

Follow them on Instagram, and check out their food platter deals. Saturday nights are normal platters, and Wednesday nights are for Vegans.

On arrival I thought hmm 2 would have been good, but this was just for lunch and I had another course coming.

To be honest one was perfect, and it was packed with flavour with and without the curry sauce.

Deep Fried Chicken Wings £4.90

So I am not great with anything spicy, but I thought ok lets try it.

This was not spicy one bit, the sauce had more kick than the chicken. It was just ok, yeah it was nice but just OK

Not sure if I would order this again.

Banana Leaf has been on my list for a long time now, and for some reason I haven’t visited it till now….not sure why maybe just depending on what I felt like to eat on the day.

On entering the decor and atmosphere is very nice, and a little fancy.

We were taken to our table and sat down, while I was getting comfy I had a look about. This was VERY nice inside, and everything felt like had to be perfect.

While we were waiting for our food to arrive, I noticed the manager? was teaching a girl how the tables should be set and everything had to be in a specific area and perfect. I really like this touch, as it shows that the restaurant cares even about the little things.

The Food…

I don’t know what this was called, but this was given to us while waiting and told it was to help refresh out palates.

IMG_7970.jpg

This was nice.

We just asked for when the items were ready to just bring them out, so it was a mix of starters and mains.

Mains

Roasted Duck Slices stuffed with Prawn and Chicken Meat £13.90
served in a plum sauce

IMG_7975.jpg

This looked very nice, though a little more salad than I would like (but you know am not a salad guy).

I tried a little first and BANG WOW!!!! this was soooo tasty I LOVED it!!! So it was time to dig in and enjoy my meal.

This was a very very good option for me, normally I would have avoided it as duck is hit and miss for me….but tonight this was really good and I would order this again.

served with curry sauce

I have had Roti before, so I thought lets try it here and this was originally my starter but as I said I asked them to bring it all at once.

Again this was very nice, very light and the curry sauce was REALLY good.

Overall

My first visit to Banana Leaf was very good, I could tell they took a lot of care and attention to everything from the restaurant to the food.

I cant fault anything tonight, the service and food was very good. The atmosphere was very relaxing.

For me and this is a personal thing, maybe the cost of the dishes are just a little much for the portion size but apart from that its a great place to try.
