Oro Italian Restaurant (South Side, Glasgow): Review

V: 20th December 2020

I have wanted to visit Oro for a while now, but I have never really been in the area.

Today I was meeting friends for lunch, so I was looking forward to seeing Oro, the friends and trying the food.

Venue

On entering the restaurant is split into two areas the main area when you walk in, and the back area down the stairs….this is where I was seated today.

First impressions really nice visually, and had a nice relaxing and cosy feel.

Where I was seated unfortunately wasn’t too bright, so my photos don’t do the food justice.

The Food

I had no idea what to order, so I just opted for the first thing that caught my attention as everything sounded really nice.

Next time I will try a pizza.

Appetiser

Crab Cakes £7.95

On arrival this looked really nice, and I liked the presentation….now time to taste.

Wow I was very impressed! the flavour was really good and I liked the mixture of the sauces with it.

The red sauce you can see was a sweet chilli so it added a nice subtle kick but didn’t over power the rest of the flavours.

Main Course :

Chicken Risotto £13.95

WOW this was a big portion! and look at how it was presented….for me this is a first to see risotto presented like this.

This smelled nice, and my mouth started to water so time to dig in.

mmmm this was a good risotto, the flavour, and perfectly cooked. My only issue was I wish I didnt have a starter, as I was full 2/3 of the way through so I had to take the rest home with me.

If you visit and love risotto I recommend you try this.

The Western Club Restaurant (Glasgow): Review

Western Club Restaurant
32 Royal Exchange Square
Glasgow G1 3AB

V: 18th April 2018. T: 0141 248 2214. W: www.theclubrestaurant.co.uk

The guys over at The Western Club Restaurant kindly invited me over to dine with them, I had never been here before so I accepted and added to my calendar.

On arrival I got a little confused as to when I walked up to the door, I saw a doorbell….at first I thought maybe they don’t open till later so I waited. After maybe 5mins someone exited and spoke to me…and then shown me to the restaurant.

Basically, the top floor is a private members club, and they like to have the door secure so this cleared things up for me…..so my next visit I will just ring the bell upon arrival.

Looking Around

IMG_8785.jpg

Once I entered I went up to the first floor and entered the restaurant.

Wow, this place is very nice, as you can see from the above photo it has a very smart but relaxing look to it….and since it’s situated on the first floor if you get a window seat you can see Royal Exchange Square.

The Food…

I was given a menu to choose what I wanted, so it was decision time…..here’s what I choose.

Starter

Chicken liver parfait, Arran oaties and red onion chutney
IMG_8788.jpg

I am a big fan of this dish as my starter, and as you know if you follow my posts when I have this I am mega fussy….why? well, normally you get lots of parfait and not enough to put it on….was this the case?

To be honest it was but! yes, there’s a but I just added extra to the oaties and then ate some salad with it. I didn’t mind as it was a very good parfait and I enjoyed it very much.

Main Course

Risotto of sun blushed tomatoes & spring onion, parmesan crisps, pea shoots

Risotto is my second favourite Italian dish after Carbonara, so I had to try it here and see how the chef did it.

This was very nice, and not very heavy which was good as some times you can feel very bloated and too full after it in some places.

The parmesan crisp was very nice, and very moreish and worked perfectly with the dish.

Desert

Rasberry Crème Brulee

I love Crème Brulee so I had to have this option, plus the raspberry part sounded interesting.

This was really good and so good I could have easily had more, and the little biscuits just melted in your mouth.

Child Friendly: Yes (well behaved kids) Accepts: Cash & Card

Yup back at Glasgow Amore for my 35th Birthday, and it was a great place to have a birthday dinner.

I was recently here and enjoyed it very much, so I was very happy when I heard it was here.

Just like the last time we were seated, and given a few mins to look over the menu.

This time I was just having a main course, as there was a birthday cake waiting for me later so I had to leave room for that.

The Food…

I was a little bit of a bad food blogger tonight, but hey you can forgive me since it was my birthday….I forgot to take note of the cost but then again it was a treat….

Main Course

Fish Risotto

IMG_7874

I like a good risotto, one that has flavour, good consistency and also fills you up…

This was very nice and had a really nice pleasant, but not overpowering flavour to it. Half way through I was starting to get full, but I always finish what I order.
