Here is a place I don’t tend to visit very often, the main reason being I am either never near a Harvester or I tend to find the service poor.

Tonight I was seeing Alladin and decided to take a visit.

The Food…

I wanted to try a few dishes so I opted for the 2 Course Meal Deal which cost £12.99, here is what I ordered.

Main Course

Nachos

IMG_0632.jpg

For a starter, this looked good and a nice portion size…

After a few bites it was just OK, for me it needed more cheese. If they layered this better it could be really good but they didn’t so was just ok.

Starter

The Beyond Bean Burger

IMG_0633.jpg

Yes a bean burger shocker, and guess what I didnt really like the flavour.

Adding some sauce to the burger helped, as it gave it better flavour but hmmm not for me.

Overall

Overall it was just a ok experience, the only good part was the staff as they were very friendly and helpful tonight.

For me I dont know if I would go back in a hurry but hey I tried it and tried something new which is always good.

Iberica (Glasgow) : Review

I have had Iberica on my list for a while but I have only ever heard one good thing about it, and that was the food is nice but nothing else. Normally you hear about costs, atmosphere etc so I decided to check it out and see what I thought.

Currently in Glasgow for Spanish my favourite place is Barca, so this is what I was using as my comparison.

On entering the place looks very very nice, and we were greeted and shown to our table.

The atmosphere here is very relaxing and enjoyable, and there is music playing in the background which helps add to that.

We were told its tapas style so 2 or 3 dishes per person was recommended.

If you have never had tapas you need to remember the reason you order a few dishes, is the portion size is smaller and they will just come to the table when they are ready.

The Food…

Fried Chorizo Lollipops £6.00
with Pear alioli sauce

IMG_4159

On arrival this looked interesting…

The lollipops on their own were really good, and the pear alioli sauce just added more amazing flavour to this dish.

I would have this again if I went back but, at £6 I am not really sure its worth the cost maybe £5 would be more acceptable (I know its only £1)

Chicken Liver Pâté £4.00
Served with quince and toast

IMG_4160

I always have to try the Pate where ever I go, and if you have been reading my blog for a while you know that I always hate that you get more pate than the side to spread it on.

On arrival I was very pleased to see there were 4 slices of toast, and looking at the jar this would be enough so I was very pleased now to taste.

This was very nice pate and very full in flavour, the toast that came with this was very hard and crispy which was very nice.

At £4 this was very good value for money.

Black Rice £7.00
Squid ink rice and prawns served with alioli sauce

IMG_4162

This caught my eye as I was looking at the menu Black Rice, I have never tried that or seen in person black rice. The squid ink is what would give this colour so I wondered does it also do something to add to the flavour?

On arrived it smelled amazing, and looked interesting so time to taste.

This tasted just like a nice creamy rice dish, and the sauce added that little extra change in flavour. The black ink…well its just a colouring and didn’t add to the taste.

Overall this was a good sized dish, and very filling.

Overall

Iberica Glasgow is a very nice restaurant, and I can see why it was busy tonight. Its a very relaxing place to eat, and the food is very tasty.

For me value for money is just O.K, I feel that if some dishes were maybe £1 or £2 less it would be a little better.

My girlfriend ordered some sliders which sounded nice and cost £7, I have ordered sliders before from Barca and you get 2 which combined gives you an O.K sized burger but if you look at the photo below, you can see these are tiny and to be honest Barca’s had a better taste and cost less.

Would I return, to be honest I am not sure as I can get better value for money and slightly bigger portion sizes in other places but the food service and atmosphere was nice…I will need to have a think on this one.

Mango Tropical Bar (Glasgow) : Review

373 Sauchiehall Street
Glasgow

Child Friendly: No as a bar      Accepts: Cash & Card

I have passed Mango a few times, when walking to the West End and I recently saw a voucher deal for here (two burgers and a cocktail for £12) which I had to get as it was a very good deal.

On entering we were greeted and shown to our table, and had a look about and at the menu.

For me this place had a really good atmosphere about it, you had Latin American music playing in the background, everyone was having a nice time, you had a TV that was showing football and WWE.

One part that was very cool was at every both, there was a plug socket on the wall. This had normal plug points and a USB point which was a nice touch.

The Food :

Beef Burrito £n/a as had voucher (normally £8.90)
Wheat flour tortilla wrapped with meat, refried beans, lettuce, guacamole, cheese and sour cream.

IMG_7994.jpg

I have had a few Burritos in the last few months, so I thought I would try one from here. On arrived it looked very nice, and it smelled really good.

At first bite I was a little puzzled as I was expecting it to have rice inside, but I am guessing not all Burritos need to have this.

Overall this was just OK for me, there were a few very chewy bits of beef but the majority were all nice and tender and the flavour was nice. The dips really did add to the flavour, my favourite was the sour cream I felt this worked very well with this.

Cocktail :

Mango Mojito £n/a as had voucher

IMG_7993

The waitress who was very helpful tonight told me about the 3 cocktails I could choose from, so I told her I had a sweet tooth and to surprise me and she brought this one.

So I was with my friend tonight and there were two items on the dessert list that caught our eye, so we decided to order both and try half of each.

Desserts :

Churros con Chocolate £4.50
Very Latin American sweet snack to dip in to hot chocolate

IMG_8001.jpg

I wanted something sweet tonight, and this is a very sweet dessert.

I have had this before in many restaurants and loved it, and tonight I enjoyed it and with the dip it made it that extra sweet that I needed.

Torta de Queijo con Mango £4.50
Fresh Home Baked Mango cheesecake

This was very nicely presented, and I couldn’t wait to dig in.

It was a very nice cheesecake, with a very nice Mango sauce.

Overall :

Overall I really enjoyed my first visit here, food wise for me it was nice but atmosphere and cocktails that’s where it won for me.

I would like to go back and try another dish, and more of the cocktails.

As I said at the start of this post, I really felt relaxed and really enjoyed the atmosphere here. The music was at a perfect level, and the service, decor etc were all very good.
