The worst part of being a food blogger,  is you have always try different places (not really a bad thing) but it means that the places you really like to visit get pushed back and you don’t visit as often as you would like.

Obu Pan Asian is one of these places for me, I am always relaxed there and enjoy the food so it was time to put a pause on my places to visit list and go back to Obu.

It was nice to be back, and I was welcomed and shown to a table. I was then told they had a new menu, and given more details about it.

This was very good and the guys here were nice enough to allow me to try it tonight, even though it’s only available on specific days and times.

Sunday – Thursday : 12pm to 7pm
Fridays : 12pm to 6pm

Any three dishes from £12.95 per person

The Food…

Sweet Potato Chilli & Coconut Soup
Garnished with sesame and chive

IMG_5704.jpg

As most of my family and friends know, I am not a soup person for me soup is an older generation food.

Tonight I decided to give this a shot, as it sounded nice plus if I didn’t like it I still had 2 other dishes to eat.

O.K this was very nice, I loved how sweet it was but not over powering and brace yourself….I would have this again.

The chilli part is really nothing, there is just a tiny tiny hint but don’t let that put you off. The flavours all worked very well together and was very good.

Pork Hirata Buns (Two Pieces)
Soft white steamed bun filled with Hot Sin pork strips

Yup I like my buns when I come to Obu Pan Asian, so when I saw this on the menu I needed to see if this was as nice as the Boa’s that I had last time.

On arrival these came in a nice basket where you take the lid off to reveal whats inside, I really like this as it adds to the presentation and its very cool…well I find it cool.

This was nice, the buns were very soft and the pork was perfectly cooked and tender.

For me though the pork strips could have packed a slightly bigger punch in flavour but thats just a personal preference.

Salt and Pepper Squid
Chilli and garlic dip

IMG_5706

As soon as this arrived I was like I cant wait to try these!! what I have found is this dish is either a big HIT or a massive FAIL in restaurants these days. Some are too chewy, not salty enough or far too salty.

I was very happy tonight with this dish, it melted in my mouth and the perfect combination of salt and pepper and with the dip that just added that extra mmm but trust me the dip wasn’t needed as these were perfect.

Overall

I am so glad I put my restaurant list on hold tonight, and come back to Obu Pan Asian.

Tonights experience was very good, and the food was just as good and maybe even better than I remember.

I look forward to my next visit here

See you soon guys.

2nd Visit to Nam Tuk Tram Stop (West End, Glasgow) : Review

Nam Tuk Tram Stop : Sign

2 Partick Bridge Street
Glasgow G11 6PL

V: 1st November 2017      T:  0141 357 0330  W: namtuk.co.uk

Child Friendly: Yes (well behaved kids)      Accepts: Cash & Card

** Since this visit I have been here many times, so just finally getting round to posting these as i’ve had a lot to write up.

This is my second visit to Nam Tuk, as I really loved my first (view first review) and thought lets see how it is second time round and to try different food.

Some people won’t know this but the location that Nam Tuk is located on, has been very bad luck for other restaurants etc that have tried to open here. Normally they close after a while due to not being very busy, but I can’t see that happening to Nam Tuk as from what I have experienced I think it will have broken the bad luck spell.

Again on entering I got that cool vibe, it just looks a fun place to eat. Just like last time the music was at a good level, there was no need to shout at who ever I was with (this is one of my big pet hates)

So I really wanted to order what I had last time as I enjoyed that, but I knew I HAD to try something different so did it? …..

The Food…

Korean Chicken Katsu 5.95
Panko breadcrumbed chicken, Ton katsu sauce, mayonnaise

IMG_3665
I was recommended this by Nam Tuk to try on my next visit (which is today), so I thought lets give it a go and see what its like.

On arrival this looked very interesting, and smelled good so so far Nam Tuk were off to a good start with this recommendation.

So I got the Egg Fried rice with this dish (see next part)

OH MY GOD this was so good, full of flavour and the sauces really added to the flavour. The chicken was cooked perfect and everything about this was really good and one I would have again (if the manager was to not slag me off for getting it again :p )

Egg Fried Rice (v) 2.95

Cant really say much about rice, but what I will say is this is the best Egg Fried rice I have ever had.

BBQ Pork Skewers 5.95
Thai style BBQ moo ping

IMG_3669.jpg

Firstly there is one skewer missing from my photo, as I took one then remembered I forgot to take a photo.

These were very nice, the pork was very tender and tasty and the side sauce gave it just that extra something to boost its already good flavour.

For me I am not sure if I would order this again, not for any bad reason just to try a few other dishes.

I went back the following night but I wasn’t too hungry so I ordered the following

Veggie Spring Roll 4.95 (vgn)
Thai style spring roll, cabbage, carrot, grass noodle, sweet chilli sauce

IMG_3676

These were very very nice, the flavour was really good and they were just crunchy enough.

The sauce was a sweet chilli sauce which give it a little kick, but for me they were perfect just the way they were.

I am very impressed again with this visit, and look forward to heading back again soon to try more things.

The waitress tonight recommended me to try the Green Thai Curry so I will let you know how that is on my next visit.

A solid 5 out of 5 again, no issues….service, food and atmosphere perfect!

The Hanoi Bike Shop (Glasgow, West End) : Review

I have passed here a good few times and also the smell has made me hungry, so I added it to my list to visit.

Today I did just that and was really looking forward to it.

First Impressions :

As you walk closer to the door you smell amazing food smells, and when you walk in that continues.

This is a very funky looking restaurant, downstairs as you can see from the below photos has a very relaxing feel with the eye catching multicoloured lanterns hanging.

IMG_8349

Today I sat upstairs and outside.

Upstairs is also very nice, smaller than downstairs but having the outside part helps making that more appealing more so when we have some nice weather.

Now on to the food…

The Food :

What you need to remember when you order here is that its not a starter then main, as soon as the food is ready it will come out so very similar to Tapas style.

I didn’t really know what to order, so luckily it was like tapas style so I ordered 3 dishes which would give me a good feel of how the food is.

Cha Gio Heo £6.25
Crispy Pork Spring Rolls

IMG_8350

On arrival I knew I order something good, this looked nice and also smelled nice.

To taste this was very good, packed with flavour and dipping it in the dip that came along with it added more flavour. The batter was nice and crispy, and the whole dish was great.

You can eat them as is, use the sauce or even wrap the letter around them and do all.

For me this is a dish I would order again.

Cha Ca Quy Nhon £6.15
Vietnamese Fish Cakes

IMG_8357

I am a big fan of fish cakes, so I thought lets see how these are.

For me I was a little disappointed, as they were a little rubbery but then again I don’t know if this is how Vietnamese Fish Cakes are meant to be like this.

Flavour was OK for me, and am not sure if its one that I would order again but don’t let my thoughts stop you trying as you never know you may love these.

Heo Quay Banh Gal £8.95
Chilli glazed pork and crispy rice cakes

IMG_8354

For me my first thought was “all that green stuff” as you know from reading am not a salad person, but lucky my girlfriend took that part and left me the rest.

This was sooooooo good, the pork was very nice and the flavour was amazing. There was the odd part that was a little chewy but I didn’t mind. The rice cakes I loved so much and wish there was more!!!

I would order this dish again and recommend you try it if you visit.

Overall :

Finally I got to visit and try the food, and I can say it didn’t disappoint. The service, the food the atmosphere plus a sunny day it was spot on and just what I needed.

I cant wait to go back and sample a few more dishes, so keep watching this space.

If you are in the area please do pop in, its now in my top 3 places in the West End.
